It was awesome watching you guys in the Honda at Hallett, Paul! That thing has one hell of an exhaust note, as well as being obviously very fast! You've got a bunch of fans here at Kicker :D
Hallett was the one day we had any issues at all.I drove the first session and on my 3rd lap going into the first corner I noticed all I had was 3rd gear.It took me a few seconds to gather myself up and remember I was still on the clock.I finished the 3 rd lap in 3rd gear.On this track we were useing 2nd,3rd and 4th gear so this hurt us bad.Even with all this i still finished the session in 60th place beating 27 teams. It was just a small part that came loose that kept it from shifting. One of our other drivers(Bradley Buchanan the fastest one on our team) drove and got 34 in the session.
I would have loved to have watched Scott if his Typhoon had been 100% healthy.what would be even better is if he next year ran the TY and one of you guys ran a SY.

And, here he is in person.... Scott Breneman - heck of a nice guy. I talked with Scott for quite a while. Very nice that he took time out of a hectic day to talk to a Sy owner... he was very happy to see someone from the Sy/Ty community there... I was walking around with my Myclone donation T-shirt on (gray Syclone one), and I heard this voice say, "Nice T-shirt!" - it was Scott and hid Dad, Bob.

You got to be a nice guy if your planning on wearing a purple shirt and blue jean shorts out in public. :rotf:

It was a great week and lots of fun.Our odyssey was great but after getting back I could not get the thought of the GMC Typhoon out of my head.So what does a normal red blooded American male do when he gets in this shape ? You guessed it ,wait until you get to work so you can surf the internet and get more info.I have always been interested in these GMCs but after spending the week following one I am now in love with them.I am now looking for a way to explain to my wife I want to buy a 15 year old all wheel drive turbo pick up truck.
All of you guys can be very proud of Scott and his GMC.He drove the wheels off of it all week.We over the week got to know Scott and Bob pretty good and they are fine people.
Talking with him (sorry for this Scott ) he is thinking of selling the Typhoon and getting a Corvette for next year.Maybe you guys can help me convince him to run the Typhoon next year also.It looks like he is already building a fan base(including me) for he and the one lap Typhoon.
Welcome Paul.
Have your wife read this article

Maybe she'll understand. :dunno:

Scott,

Nice job considering all the mechanical gremlins.

I would love a chance on quick interview on your experience at the event. I'll put up an article on my web site at www.highperformancetrucks.com

Btw, if you plan on doing the event again, you truck will benefit big time from a custom coilover suspension like on my Syclone. No worries anymore about collapsing suspension or unwanted camber/caster changes. A proven setup.

I SCCA time trial the truck and will be entering it in the Virginia City Hillclimb in Sept. Here are some images of the suspension:

..and a vid racing at RFR:

If you upgrade to an electronic shifted transmission you could benefit from a paddle shifter:

Anyway, congrats again!

Thanks for the interest, guys.

This was the first year for my Typhoon at a One Lap event.
We had some problems, but none that kept us from finishing the event.
The highlights include:
The shift linkage came loose on the transmission and would not go past third gear.
The alternator died and we*almost* made it to the parts store on the battery
The solder melting on the starter terminal- we removed it and resoldered it- It lasted1 1/2 days
The exhaust crossover pipe blew apart on Monday and we had to slide it together and reclamp it daily.
The water injection box quit working so we had no charge cooling.
Fouled a set of spark plugs.
Picked up a nail and had a flat on the highway at night
Ran out of gas- once

It goes without saying that if the truck was running to its potential, and I was less distracted by things like not being able to restart the truck if it stalled, we could have placed higher.

The Honda Manufacturing of Alabama Odyssey was very well prepared, and they only had one problem all week. This is one of the two vans they ran last year. It's a 3.5 v6 sleeved block with lower compression pistons running 10-12 psi boost through an Acura TL 6 speed with a limited slip. They were cool guys and were wrenching on the Typhoon at Pueblo Motorsports Park with me and my dad.

They are working on a 1 hour TV show about this years One Lap.

Any more Questions, just ask!

Thanks,
Scott Breneman

The Issue of Car and Driver magazine that features the race is on the stands now. They highlight the minivan, but the only photo of the Ty is in the group shot...it's all the way in the back and looks like a little brick compared to most of the cars.

This truck was 4sale at Super Chevy on Saturday. If anyone is interrested in the truck, Send me a message and I would be glad to give you his number.
