Hi, my name is Keith and I am a huge fan of the Syclone and Typhoons. I have a 96 Blazer that is in the process of a show truck. I also currently have my first truck which is a 88 s10 but with a 2.8. My buddy has a 86 4.3 that i would like to turbo and drop in it. If anyone knows anything about turbo 4.3's i figured it would be you guys. websites and info on what i would need to do the conversion would be GREAT.

Re: Turbo Help!!!

Re: Turbo Help!!!

I wouldn't use the 86 block as it most likely does not have a roller cam. You must go 88 or newer. other than that it is just a matter of cost for all the parts that you will need. Exhaust manifolds, turbo,ETC.

Almost all the really knowledgeable people will tell you to set down and come up with a plan of what you want to accomplish. Then stick with it. As there are many stories on this site where guys will start out and then they start this.

If I go just a little bit bigger, then I can ............ and so on until they lose scope or focus and end up in a  or something that cost so much they are afraid to drive it .

It is not likely that that site has a true Syclone Engine, do to the many scams that are pull on people that do not know what a real Sy/Ty engine is. Just ask these two quick questions when you talk to them. This is only a start.

1. What kind of main caps do the engine have?

2. What is the compression ratio?

Is your truck a 2wd or 4wd? I just gave my daughter a 88 cherry S-10 that had a blown 2.8 engine with a 5 speed. We put a 1988 4.3 in it and I installed the gears from a 1990 Z-28 T-5 trans in the stock S-10 trans. Now that thing is a handfull to drive as it will spin the tires really easy in 1st and 2nd being it is a 2wd truck.

Re: Turbo Help!!!

99.9% sure it isnt a "SyTy" motor. The previous owner of my truck, did the same thing. You can make it work, but you wont be able to pull 15psi of boost. Mine was a "SyTy" replacement motor, and it barely took 10psi, before it started knocking 12*. I had to run 105 race gas to boost to 15psi.

Mine came from GM, about 9.5 compression ratio, instead of the SyTy 8.35
