Tunercat and Data Master

Question for the guys that use Tunercat and Data Master. Are you able to use 1 laptop for both or do you need to have 2 laptops for this? I am trying to figure out how this all works. I have DM and just ordered my Romulator. Any advice would be great.

I think you should be able to do both, assuming the laptop meets the minimum requirements for both programs. It's the same as having both a word processor program and an email program installed - they don't really have anything to do with each other.

The only issue you might run into is that DM is a Windows program, and I know some of the chip burning stuff (based on older programs) has issues with the newer versions of Windows. I don't know anything about Tunercat though. You might have to boot off a DOS boot disk or something, at worst.

I use one laptop for both DM & the Romulator. I run them at the same time with the Romulator hooked up to the serial port and DM hooked up to the USB port (via an adapter).

FWIW, I have run this setup on 98SE, ME, and XP. All with no problems (not that some of them didn't require some "tweaking" to get it to work right :wink: ).

I had some problems with DM running through the USB, so I left it in the serial port and run the romulator through the USB.

A serial to USB adapter is available at Radio Shack for around $30.

well, i have a old IBM thinkpad and it doesn't have usb. i am not sure what this one connection is for on the back. has a picture of like a tv screen or something next to it. i will have to find out. but i am busy studying tables and looking at my romulator i just opened up.

Ok, for you guys that are good at computer stuff. here is link to a computer like mine. looks to me i cant run both programs at the same time. let me know what my options are if any.

It's what the picture says. =) That's to hook up an external monitor.

What kind of "tweaking" did you have to do to run DM through USB? I just sold my old laptop and new laptop doesn't have serial port, only USB's so I am thinking of buying an adapter so I can run DM.

Whatever you do, if you're going to "attempt" to get DM working through USB, don't dick around with anything but a Belkin USB Serial Adapter.. you'll likely regret it if you get any other brand. (Not that you won't regret not having a serial port regardless..)
