This may sound strange, but I'm building an awd kit car and have a few questions about the syty trans. case. I've seen a few v8 sytys and was wondering if they use the stock trans case. I'm using the ls1/t56 combo and plan to SC or turbo later on, so eventualy I may hit 800hp. I may have to buy an aftermarket trans case, but they are all off-road locking type cases. Also does the syty trans. case have a differential? Any response will be appreciated.

Do a search on the subject. Lots will come up. BW4472 transfercase. Viscous coupled full time case. No clutches in it. Sy's have a 3 pinion planetary with 27 spline output shaft and Ty's have a 4 pinion planetary with 32 spline output shaft. Ed Hess is using a stock 4472 and has or may be hitting 9s with it. Seems to be doing just fine.

I never knew that the sy vs ty was differentiated with a 1372 vs 4472. Cool.
I didn't mean you did something wrong by asking. It's just many times the subject has been covered and you may find pics or references that won't come up in this thread because they've already answered it before.

Yup, these transfer cases have held up to some SERIOUS power in our applications. Now if we could only get the same level of durability out of our THM-700R4's... The transfer case is filled with 3 pints or 1.5 quarts of ATF NOT gear oil BTW.

The problem with that torque split is my drivetrain setup. It may seem strange, but the engine will be mounted backwards in the middle of the car. this will result in a 65F/35R split! I know I will have to do ALOT of custom work, but I'm trying to keep it to a minimum, at least on the drivetrain. Quaife makes an awesome transmission with a front and rear output, but the cheapest one they offer is $18K+, and that's the 5spd!
