I have caltracs and a 1" block. and still plenty of adjustement left.

I think hes wondering if the spring pad/mount that the U bolts go through that has the axle end of the bar attached will hit the ground.

Im tinkering with my own set up right now that kinda duplicates the Cal Track set up at the axle and with the two inch block I have the mounting point for the bar at the axle is gonna be a little low. Just gotta engineer aroundit I guess.

If thats not what hes talking about then just ignore me as usual..

nothing special. I just installed them as the directions stated. I just removed the overload spring because of interfearance and lack of function. I called calvert racing about this and they said some ppl have this problem and other dont. but in my situation the ovr load spring wasnt of any use so I left it out.

MY SYCLONE BACK IN 1993 WITH STOCK TURBO,CONVERTER & ORIGINAL FIRESTONE TIRES. WENT A 1.67 60 FT.

THE SUSPENSION MODS. ARE AS FOLLOWS.

FRONT SHOCKS 10/90
REAR SHOCKS RANCHO 9000 (SET ON #4)
REAR SWAY BAR FROM ADDCO
2 IN. LOWERING BLOCKS
REAR BRAKES CHEAP PENN 500'S

THE TRUCK WAS RUNNING 12.50'S BACK THEN.

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHO OWNS MY OLD TRUCK?
"SYCLONE 2925"

BINGO !! this is my dilemma.....

I'd like to see pics/ideas, I think theres other options availabe, the last thing I wanna ask about and shoulda mentioned before is, is there gonna be an intereference with a REAR SWAY BAR installed ?

Nope, not at all, besides if I ignore ya, whos gonna burn some skins off with me at the Nats ?
Jeff Scott is already WIMPING OUT on me.....

Ohhh boy.. This could get long winded. I'll keep it short as poss so as not to put anyone to sleep..

Lemme give ya a lil history on how my thinking got to this point..

Over a year ago I wanted to do flex forms but noticed ppl were having delamination issues. That scared me away as I didnt wanna have a spring come apart on a WFO launch. That would tear up all kinda cladding drive train stuff if the rear got turned loose under the truck at ~22psi.

Started pondering doing coil overs/ladder bar system almost exactly like Als set up on the rear (even before I saw Als nice set up at the Nats). I built a small model outta some alum I had laying around to see how the ladder bar type suspension would work on my "drive it anywhere any time" type thinking vehicle. Well, it looks to me like the suspension would work perfect except in a situation where the rear would need to "twist". As in if you jacked up one rear tire but left the other to dangle. Just not enough movement to make me feel comfortable with driving anywhere anytime over most any road. No, Im not out "wheel'n" or stump jumpin in myclone but we do have some crappy roads round here..

Wanting to shed some weight, get rid of the axle wrap/wheel hop I have now, and flex form supposedly getting the delam prob fixed brought me back to the flex forms. I feel that there would still be an issue with poss spring breakage/delam under brutal launches over time from axle wrap. That led me to look at the cal tracks. I liked the idea but didnt like the way the front pivot mechanism uses the spring as the contact point. Looks to me like it would put too much stress on the spring at that location over time and many launches.

Here is my brain storm (or skid. you decide). Why not make the front bracket/pivot mechanism of the cal tracks to work backwards to what they are designed to do?? As in contacting the flat spot of the metal spring mounting bracket thats riveted to the frame. IMO this only puts the fragile (for lack of better words) glass spring in a tension stress situation. IMO the spring would never be stressed with axle wrap or abraded by being contacted by the pivot mechanism/bracket like the cal tracks would normally.

Ok, now that you have read this far I figure youre interested in what I have in mind or are wanting more info to call me a cabbage head. Either way is fine..

I checked into ordering cal tracks and looked them over pretty close. The price is just too steep for me. Good idea/product but I know I can make the same thing a whole lot cheaper in my garage. Especially considering I would only really need the axle mounts and the bars but would be making my own front pivot mechanism/bracket myself. Im a tight wad too... So, on my b-day trip to the bone yard I snagged a couple of stock s-truck rear spring/shock mounting pads. Im gonna weld some brackets Im going to fab outta 3/16" steel to these. This gives me my axle end mounting points. Im gonna make them just long enough so the bar will clear the stock springs that are minus the over load leaf at full suspension droop. It will take some tinkering with the length of the front and rear brackets but I wanna get em up as high as poss so the rear bracket wont hang down too far and snag if a tire goes down or I encounter an obstacle (like a piece of semi truck recap on the free way).

Thats where Im at now. I havent decided on thickness of metal needed to make the brackets durable yet not weigh a ton. Nor have I decided on a diameter of chromemoly tubing to use for the "bar" pieces. Ive got some stuff some what fabbed up in alum just for measurement purposes but thats it. Hell, the whole mess may not even work. Who knows...

In my thinking the above idea would allow me to run the stock springs (minus overload leaf) for now and later on allow me to run flex forms after Im confident they aint gonna fly to pieces anymore.. Cheap too since Ive got a whole lot more time, MIG wire, and metal layin around than cash..

I'll put pics up if this whole mess turns out even remotely successful. Might even put pics up of the impending crash of me and myclone if its not.
