Towing to Nationals

So I was talking to my dad this weekend about going to the SYTY Nationals. In the middle of the conversation he said that I better trailer my TY there because of the past history of my TY breaking he does not want to have to come pick me up somewhere on the highway. So this made me think. How many people will be using a trailer to get to nationals?

most people are skidish to drive a 15 yr old car/truck that many miles, race it, then drive it home..

if you HAVE to be home on time bring a trailer, if you can potentially spend a few days away that you didn't plan for, drive it.

part of the JOY of these trucks is driving them, why not enjoy it!?

all the trailer does is ensure you will get home, even if you break the typhoon.

I think @ Shindig, the total was 20% of the trucks in attendance broke.
At the NASTE meet, I don't think anyone broke, but they weren't running on the track.
20% seem like a fair # to throw out for average breaking per event? :)

I will be trailering mine even though I'm only 5 hours away. I'm buying a Silverado SS to do so.

I did tell my dad that that was part of the fun was driving there, but at the same time being 15 and a half hours away makes you think a little.

We would love to drive all the trucks out and have our own little caravan. And Smoosh is right, if you have some flex time, it can really be an enjoyable venture. But with everything else we usually like to bring out, the truck, trailer and anemities it provides, we are most likely going to trailer out a couple trucks.

I totally agree with Eric. I trailered my TY from New York to NASTE which was over 20 hours one way. If i could have driven it i would have but having the family with me i needed to make sure i had one vehicle to get there or home safe.

Well I think I am going to drive the TY! Im just going to be sure to pack the tool box and extra parts (knock on wood) I hope that I wont need them...:tup:

The money you save will pay for the parts you will replace someday :) .

I drove 1200 miles in mine the day I bought it, but it only had 60k miles on it ---

Gotta be driving reaaaal slow to take 20 hours to get from NY to NJ. To the OP, I busted my butt to get my truck drivable to homecoming after I trailered it to nationals. Trip out went smooth, trip back not so much since the hose that connects the fuel pump to the metal line popped off. I had to keep adding and taking away fuel (code 59) as I would have less than a half tank. At its worst I had added 65% to the fuel map to keep the WB under 16.5. If you are confident you can fix the nuisance stuff, and have a plan b if something catastrophic happens, then give it hell.
