this has been covered many a times but heres what i've heard:
-Typhoon, thats the truck version of the syclone, right.
-Typhoon, thats got the GN motor in it, right.
-Typhoon, thats got the Vette motor in it, right.
-Typhoon, they only made black ones, right.
-Typhoon, thats the twin turboed Syclone, right.
-Typhoon, thats the twin turboed GN motor, right.
-Typhoon, thats the twin turboed Vette motor, right.
-Typhoon, thats the twin turboed one, right.
the list can go on and on, but that what i remember right now. the people that have asked me these questions are somewhat all car buffs.

I just like being able to say my truck is "stock" almost everywhere I go b/c most people have no freakin' clue what they are looking at anyways.
Most recently, I watched from afar as someone told their freind that it wasn't even a real Typhoon because "it says Syclone on the motor".
90% of the time I just nod and smile. If its a car guy I pop the hood and school 'em. :tup:

I've heard that Syclones were GMCs and Typhoons were Chevys
Syclones were the GMC version of the S10 Extreme
Typhoons aren't that fast, but Syclones are.
Typhoons only came in black and white.
And apparently, my truck has an aftermarket body kit.

i had some one tell me that the ty's used to come with the ls1 motor, but not anymore.
i had a gn owner tell me it had a gn motor
and i had some one tell me that it wasnt a real ty. i asked why and he said because they didnt come with a manual, and i said i know, i put it in. then we talked, he astually knew what it was though.

these are the ones I've heard:
I had a guy tell me mine was fake, because they didn't make any white typhoons.
there not fast at all stock, but with a cai, exhaust, and a pcm reflash they are crazy fast...
syclones had the 454 in them, and apparently they tested a version with dual rear tires (like a semi) and it still spun em like crazy...the typhoons had a 454 too, and they were limited production because they were impossible to drive without spinning the tires (no joke, I swear...a guy I worked with told me this :rotf: )

its a supercharged 3.8...predecessor of the L67 engine (s/c 3800 in the monte ss/gtp)
that about it...the 454 one had me completely out of words, I just sat there looking at him for while and finally said "dude, you are seriously mistaken..."

to be honest, before I became more familiar with these trucks I DID think that the Typhoon was GMC and the Syclone was a Chevy-the sole reason being that both companies carry the same models with different names. I thought they were the same thing.

i dunno i think over the years the one i enjoy the most, is when you tell someone you have a syclone... and you get the deer in the headlights look... its even better when you get that from the guy behind the parts counter at the GMC dealer :lol:
but i think most of us have just about heard all of em...
i recently got into it with 2 guys at work, when i wore my syclone shirt that says 0-60 in 4.6 in the rain.... they insisted that there was no way my truck could be that fast. i just sat there with a smile... and said i know i know i just had the shirt made as a joke, but it is pretty quick though... we should race sometime. one of em has a new G35, and the other has a late 90s vette. hehe cant wait to get it running good, so i can drive it to work and take em to Syclone school. :tup:
and just in case i missed the thread... hey 5spd? why'd you put a 5speed in your ty?

Almost all of the above. I just wait for the guy who really knows what they are and have a real conversation with him. These people do exist believe it or not... Usually it starts with "I've always wanted one of these and you never see them." Or "I remember when these came out and I've kicked myself ever since."
