Tan wire does Nothing!

I have a rough idle and constant miss and a knock under heavy load. I have replaced the entire ignition system with high quality parts, but the ty still runs bad. I noticed something today though. Everybody says that their engine runs like crap when the tan wire is disconnected. Well, I disconnect my tan wire and Nothing happens! The idle quality does not change one bit. What does this mean? Do I start throwing money at the computer and the memcal, now? I have already set the timing, and checked for slippage of the dampener.

before you spend the money on the ecm (not saying this isnt your prob) I'd trace that tan wire to see if its been severed or burnt accidently to make sure you have connection.

it could be working fine. use a timing light to verify that it doesnt work. if it doesnt my bet would be the dist is junk. it's far more common than an ecm or memcal. you would be getting codes and sch if that were the case. do you have datamaster? what IGN parts did you use? are they the right ones?

I just remembered, when I set the timing last, it was at +2* with the tan wire detatched and +15* when attached. I guess, it would have to be working if the timing changed. I bought a tune up kit from Detriot Turbo and a OEM distributor. The coil is a new piece from Summit. I have Datamaster, but have not found an interpretor yet. I have not traced the wire cause it gets lost in the grommet. I guess it goes to the distributor. I will try to check for continuity.

if your timing changes when you unhook and reinstll the tan wirre then it's working just fine. why would you set +2 deg of timing. set it at 0 where it's supposed to be. you issues seem to be elsewhere.
