just got a copy of my new insurance policy..

it says GMC Jimmy under the model name, with the complete vin number next to it.

now, I did say its a gmc jimmy typhoon when I signed up. the question is, if something happens (say, theft) am I insured for a typhoon or just a jimmy?

Re: syty insurance question

Probably just as a Jimmy, worth all of an optomistic $1500 replacement value. Contact your insurance company right away and get it straightened out.

Re: syty insurance question

Vin # spells it out, so to say. I am an insurance agent and my policy actually says Syclone. I would certainly check it out with your agent.

Ya I'd contact them and make sure that it does mention Syclone somewhere on the policy. Some companies have them listed as a trim level. So instead of the LT it's the Syclone. You shouldnt' have any real problems if they have the real vin though.

Re: syty insurance question

Mine says Syc. In the little box right after the vin number. I made sure to remind my company that it was a Syclone and not just a regular S-15. They were like isnt it the same. I go "Do you really think I'd pay $15k for a regular 91 S-15. Its a Turbo v6 awd pickup that they made less then 3000 of." She went "Oh, wow. I didnt know that thats kind cool"

Re: syty insurance question

I made sure my policy said "Syclone" and also educated them on the fact that it is something rare and not just "a truck" (what the dude first said when i bought it) and now they are giving me a better policy that suits my truck a little better. Its done under pleasure/race and has a higher total value worth on the truck. Also, with the status of insurance I can become exempt on emissions and not have to worry about not being able to drive it other than to the track

My policy says Typhoon on it, I made sure of that when I talked to my agent.

Re: syty insurance question

Have it appraised and have the value attached to the policy. This is the only way to ensure you will be fully covered.

It's what saved my ass when you Syclone got written off last year. They cared nothing about the fact that it said "Syclone" the vin represents a S-Series vehicle and that's it.

HAVE IT APPRAISED. It's the best money you'll ever spend.

Re: syty insurance question

Yeah like the others, when i first bought my Sonoma GT, i educated my Allstate agent about the truck and he basically set it up on a policy that if it were to get tottaled or stolen and not recovered in ine piece it woiuld have paid me an aggreed value. Which the highest he would go is what i had just bough the truck for(5700). But then 3 months later i tok it off the road for the rebuild.

When it gets back on the road it will be insured thru somebody like Hagerty with an aggreed value type policy, and they have them now with no milage limitations which is cool. And the rates are based off the value of the policy only not your driving record.

I just told my ins that I drove a 91 GMC, vin #XXX1616. The policy came back GMC Syclone turbo. Same with the Omni

Any errors like that are going to work in the insurance companies favor, it will come back on you, for not making them aware that there was an error. You don't need to have it appraised, you can get an agreed value policy, I would goto NADA classics and use that value if you have any worries.

Re: syty insurance question

I have "agreed value" on my Sy. It has to live in the garage. But if it's totaled I get my money back. Call that insurance agent!!

Re: syty insurance question

Agreed upon value is the only way to go once you start modding or increasing the value beyond blue book in any way.

Serious builds should have all receipts documented and a certified appraisal, same for super low mileage trucks.
Go to kbb.com and put in your truck info and see what THEY say your truck is worth.
I bet your ins co will say less than that number should it get stolen/totalled.

Re: syty insurance question

You know for the 6 years I had my Ty I never knew I wasn't covered to the fullest for it. It was listed as a "typhoon" trim :( . Well I am going to get it appraised and such and go that route. For agreed value do you have to have it garaged?

Re: syty insurance question

USAA has me down with for a Syclone along with vin#. I guess each company has their own methods of tracking vehicles.

Re: syty insurance question

I work for State Farm and they have what is called IRG. It stands for insurance rating group and basically places certain vehicles into certain groups that equates to value. When you go to do a rate quote in the system you have to click on S15 and then it takes you to the different trim levels. Next to each trim level is the IRG number. Most of the S15s are like 9s and 10s. The Syclone is listed about twice as high. That doesn't mean they will only give you twice as much money. It means that it is recognized as a much more valuable vehicle. State Farm uses auto price guides that are typically a little higher than Blue Book. So my point is, if you have State Farm, you are safe. Mine doesn't say Syclone right on the paperwork, but the VIN is on there and it is recognized as more valuable. You do have to tell them it is a Syclone though because the tell tale numbers in the VIN that we have can only discern whether or not the S15 is a 2WD/4WD and a reg cab/club cab. Not the actual version of the truck. Just make sure to confirm that with whoever you are dealing with.
