Well I want to hear some of you stories, when it came down to buying a SyTy that you got for dirt cheap (ie under 2k). Im considering buying a Syclone and would like some tips to help bring down the price.

Tell em your really not interested in buying right now but you and your dad have a mud buggy reconditioning business and you need the awd out of it. This might not get the truck, but it would be great for sh*ts and giggles to see what they say. :bad-word:

Ok, let me give you guys some background on the truck, the truck has sat for 2 years now, it needs paint, missing cladding in the back, and has rims that are 99x's worst then the pipi ones in the off topic section.

I already knocked on there door, the wife of the owner was there, and I asked her if they would sell she said yeah, if they got what they wanted and she also told me that most people laugh when she tells them, So I go try me, I want 8k, me: hahahahahahahahahahahaha, how many miles, Its got over 100K+. And It has sat here for 2 years.
So any tips would be appreciated, and thanks to those that have answered already.

hmmm...you want the sy, they probably don't give a damn about the sy....maybe you could come up with a trade for something that's more practical to them than the sy? maybe the lady or the owner could use a running vehicle that you can come up with easier than the cash...you could always throw in a little cash as well...just a thought

has anyone bought anything but parts off a SyTy for $2k or less? I don't think your gonna have much to work with if you get anything for $2k..

I bought my Ty for realtively cheap $3200 with high miles and I thought I was getting a good deal. It sat for a year and half and didn't run. It cost me about $50 to get it to run, I should have just sold it off for $5K and took my profit. I decide to register and drive it and then the repairs started. I really didn't have anything major go. One of my biggest PIA was the suspension was shot and all my wheels were bent.

I then drove it for a year and put on 5800 miles (sold it for $6900). I basically drove it for free after insurance and put in 100 hours or so in it. Money maker it was not.

i bought a clean, used, 1982 peterbilt tractor about 3 yrs. ago for $3000.00...used it as a yard truck for about a year...then used it for local moves for about another year...the same guy that sold me his wrecked ty (for 800.00), had a sy sitting under a carport for several years...had every kb mod on it known to man...original owner...i approached him numerous times and he always said he would think about it and let me know...but he said he couldn't give it away like he did the ty...after month's of persistance, he finally agreed to sell me the sy for 10k...i had just taken my 1982 pete out of service around that time...keep in mind that i never cut any corners on the pete...i fully maintained it and took great care of it...if a battery went bad, i'd replace all four, ect...being he's in the oilfield construction business, i asked him if he would consider it for a partial trade deal...we setup a day for him to check it out and he fell in love with it...he checked all the fluids (even differential oil) and did the finger-sniff test on all as well...he decided to trade it outright...the sy for the pete...no money down :D

I bought my 91 Sy for $7,500 with 42K miles on it, clean as a whistle carfax, etc.. I too bought it off a lady who won it in a divorce proceeding from her now X husband. It sat for 2 years and needed to be painted, a couple of pieces of cladding are cracked and the wheels/tires were shit. I replaced everything minor (plug, wires, filters, etc), bought new wheels and tires and cleaned it up. It now run great and is almost ready for paint. Would I do it again? No! I have probably $11K+ in the thing and it's not yet painted.....too much. There's deals to be had but there's always more work than meets the eye. I probably should have paid $2000 or so less for mine.

Good luck!

Any of you guys used your SyTy that you had as an intimidating tool to buy the second SyTy.

I would say intimidating, but it helped. I had look at the Ty, I bought 9 month earlier, he told me $5K for it and wasn't very negotiable, so I moved on. 8 Months later he wnet out of his way to contact me and we made a deal. (He was going to put it on ebay)
