Re: Syclones on the bimmerforums

I ordered a Syclone in 1989 for 1990 delivery from the dealer in Manassas, Va. Mine was an early production truck, and was scalding fast right out of the box, especially from a stop. I threw a decent boost guage in, and the truck was running 15-16 psi stock. Maybe it had a goofy wastegate, but none of the later Syclones would touch it. The transmission blew twice under warranty. I still search Ebay for a decent used one, but most are ragged out. From 0-30, very few cars (zero) could keep up.

Intereting description of the typhoon: "There's a guy up the street from me with one I think it has a camper shell.
Edit: I guess the guy up the street has a Typhoon, but same thing performance-wise"

Re: Syclones on the bimmerforums

Probably the best post of them all was this one, since we always write our kill stories from the vehicle in front, here is the version from the vehicle in back.:rotf:

Yea, these trucks can be made to run pretty fast. One of the biggest whipping's I've been a part of happened to my buddy back in the early 90's (93-94 time frame). He had a mustang GT that he had done all sorts of mods to (intake, full exhaust, headers, etc) and we pulled up one day behind this Cyclone and revved. The guy started powerbraking that truck and literally all four tires were spinning him almost sideways. The light turned green and that truck was through the entire intersection before my buddy even crossed the white line......my friend had NEVER experienced a whipping like that ....he was so far ahead of us by the time we got through the intersection my buddy just gave up. The look on both our faces was like "OMFG"......to this day every now and then when we are talking cars he will bring that story up and just shake his head.

I don't know what that guy had done to that truck but my friends mustang was totally outclassed. I rarely see them on the road these days but when I do I don't pick a fight because I doubt there are any stock one's anymore.

i hate people who act like they know every thing.

"Syclones/Typhoons are about 14s flat when stock. Once you swap out the fragile pistons they have the same mod potential as any turbo car"

are trucks can handle alot of boost for a stock forced induction vehicle IMO.

Look at the guy's avatar. He looks like Matt Dillon in There's Something About Mary!

My new favorite quote: "I just got my ass handed to me by a 91 GMC Pickup...by a 50 year old guy with a cowboy hat lol."
