Syclone or Camaro SS

Re: Syclone or Camaro SS

everyone here covered it. The camaro is more reliable. But sy's are fun. I raced a 2002 SS and had him up to 80mph. My sy isnot stock, but is not far from it. The ss had intake, chip and exhaust. He has 100 shot but did not use it. Insurance will be a lot higher with the ss. I am 30 and pay 550$ a year for full coverage on my Sy. I was paying 1000 a year for my 2000 Mustang GT. My sy has so far always started up and ran. It has a few problems but so far so good. Sy's are very Quick and thats what makes them fast. Any auto that can pull 12's with a few mods are fast. On the highway you will lose to a Camaro. I like the sleeper effect of the Sy. I hate having to tell "no its not a V-8" after I eat someone up off the line. In the rain its faster then most cars. I am impressed on har hard it pulls on a wet road. I was looking at a corvette before I got the Sy. There is just something satisfying about having one. :) I think its the looks on the other guys face when I pull 3 cars on him in the first 100ft. DD= SS. But if you already have a SGT..... v-8 swap. thats what I would do.

I own both, so here is my viewpoint.

Reliability, Gas Mileage, Availibility of mods & dollar per HP = LS1.

Rareity, knowing that you have something that no one else has & sleeper effect for people that don't know what they just lined up next to = SY.

Jamnut, This is awesome (you talk about reliability) and the one on jackstands is the Camaro. As a side note to my earlier post. I haven't had to do alot to the Syclone IE (Tune-ups, Trans cooler with fan behind stock grill with no cutting and remote filter for trans KB air filter kit, Exhaust after cat. Got mine with 53,000 -now has 85,000 + on her.

The reason the car is on jackstands in that pic is for routine maintenance, that is a very very very not stock LS1.

I don't want to jack this thread pimping pix of my LS1, but does this look anything like a stock LS1 to anyone here? :) I'm a compulsive Modahaulic & that's a 9 second car. ;) Maintenance happens.

When I still had the stock bottom end in that car it laid down 436 rwhp NA, we never dynoed it with the 150 shot that was on it. Even with that kind of NA hp & some 3.73 gears the car would still do 27mpg.

I'm not saying what's better, hell I passed on an 02 Z06 when I found the Syclone.

Re: Syclone or Camaro SS

Mine was $100(now its $13 since its parked) a month for the ty. Thats with State Farm and I'm 22 with a lot of tickets(only a few stayed on my record because of court supervision but I think insurance can still see those) and one suspension. Also one accident that was considered my fault(some chick slammed on her brakes without signaling to make a turn in bad weather-I hit the left rear of her car as she turned)

Re: Syclone or Camaro SS

the only reason that sy/ty's are known to be unreliable is because of the people who drive them. a well maintained and properly tuned sy or ty will be just fine. it's the idiots that bash the shit out of them every time they get behind the wheel and have no idea of how to properly tune them that you will find working on them all the time. a sy or ty is just like anything else. if you abuse it it's gonna break.

get the sy or ty.

I did drive my sy every day and beat on it and it was perfectly fine. But it was all stock except i/c pump, ported turbo, and other minor things. If you get a well maintained stock one without a ton of miles and are careful it will probably be ok. But its hard to be careful and gas will still kill you(I spent $115 my first week of ownership in the sy at $3 a gallon though, now I spend about $70 a week in the ty-when it ran)

Re: Syclone or Camaro SS

oh yeah one other thing to consider...

if you get a sy/ty you wont be spending nearly as much on tires! and yeah that shit gets expensive after awhile... 10 years ago if i had an SS theres no way in hell id be able to keep my foot out of it when cruisin around with my friends. id be fish tailing around corners lightin em up at stop lights all kinds of shit...

id say go with the syclone! you'll never have to drive your friends around! which is probably a good thing. not only will you save money on gas... but if youre not out cruising around with a car load of friends, you might not do something stupid that you'll regret later.

anytime i take one of friends out in the syclone, were not even in the truck 5 minutes "dude!!! theres a mustang!!! lets go fvck with him!!!" uhhh its an old man... "SO!!! let's teach him a lesson!!! ...c'mon dude! don't be a pussy!" now imagine 3 more friends yellin in the back seat "yeah yeah!!! race that fvcker!!!" and that one time you give in and do it, is when the cop is gonna be hiding out and you'll be the one that gets pulled over.

I have both as well and I can't complain. I love my Camaro because it looks good, hauls ass, handles well and is pretty comfortable for me. I love my Sy for way different reasons. It also hauls ass, it's rare and makes me smile because I can turn around and look at it and be pleased that it's mine. It just has a cool factor that is ridiculously hard to top. Telling it's story is fun because after I tell them what it's capable of, people just stare at it blankly and say to me, "really??" Good times. They are both amazing machines.

yeah thats what makes me want one so bad.

that thing with the friends in your car about racing is so true.

also MTN Z i think you could be putting down better times with your Z probably a better launch people with those mods are in the twelves.

Re: Syclone or Camaro SS

After thinking about it some more, I think a syclone is more comfortable than a camaro unless you are very tall. Im a truck person though and love cars but fit in any truck much better.
Just thought I'd throw that in.

Re: Syclone or Camaro SS

They look great on paper (rwd V8, sport bang/$), but everytime I drive them or here about great time/mods about them, they don't do anything for me. I couldn't spend my money on one, the styling isn't that great, they are dime a dozen, and the stereotypical owner attitude turns me off . From a reliabilty perspective F-bodies should be more practical solution than a SyTy though..

I just never cared for the incredibly huge windshield and useless dash.. I mean why does the dash have to be sooo big and useless anyways

i think im going with the syclone especialy because i dont see any here in chi-town. but i will get an ss down the road and have the best of both worlds, also i really liked the t-top option but i guess the syclone out weighs the t-tops. decision made SYCLONE

haha, we have lured in another bank account to drain:squint:
You'll be happier with it than a camaro I think, My friend has a high 11 second camaro and always wants to take the ty out instead of his car to the local hangout.

The car is easily capable of 12s just by looking at the trap speed. I have only had it to the track once with the current mods and 4.10 gears on street tires. Plus I was at Carlsbad Raceway before it closed so anyone that has been there knows that it has a less than stellar starting pad. I shouldn't have had it at the track with street tires with 4.10 gears, but the rearends on these cars are very weak. I had already broken the rear twice and didn't want to do it again while it was still my only car. It'll see the track again soon enough but I'm trying to take care of all the little crap on my Sy right now. Honestly though, you won't be disappointed with the Sy. I'm not.
