Does anyone know where I can get a center link for my Syclone? Part is discontinued. Part number 26038980. Previous owner put a 2wd link and sonthe steering damper is also missing. Truck has some torque steer issues and that's what led me to find it. Thanks in advance!

Re: Syclone center link?

Are you talking about that steering shaft (steering wheel to steering box) doesn't have a rag joint? the center link which connects to the pitman arm and the idler arm on SyTy do not have a steering dampener. Some people added 4x4'damlner in the early days.

Re: Syclone center link?

Dave,

That would explain it then. I went underneath the truck and saw where the shock/damper would go. My truck has serious torque steer so I assumed that would be part of the cause. I bought an idler arm and pitman arm as they looked worn.

Thanks,
Anthony

Stab it and steer it
Re: Syclone center link?

Have fun with the Pitman arm. And for that matter the idler arm. Not the most fun to change. Learned a new trick to get the pitman arm off the steering box. New to me anyway. Use a small die grinder/cut-off wheel to slot the arm at the steering box. IE cut a notch through the arm to as close to the shaft as possible then drive a wedge in the slot. Might take two cuts. Works like a champ. Once you're able to spread the arm even a tiny bit it falls off. I just don't know if you can get to it without removing the steering box. But once you're that far the box ain't that hard.

You can get the pitman arm removal tool, and just unbolt the steering box and move it to where you can get the tool on there. I have two different tools, one you can put a socket on the end, the other you can only put a wrench on it. Don't get one unless you can get a socket on it, trust me, so much easier. I just hit it with an impact gun and it comes right off.

I will agree. I don't think you can get the arm off without turning the box at least sideways. I just removed mine and used a tool like you said. Watching someone else just split the arm on a different vech saved them a bunch of time so I threw out the idea.

Anthony, Harbor Freight has the tool. And the tie-rod end tool. Same tool just big and little. Get both if you don't already have them.

Re: Syclone center link?

I hope that solves my torque steer issue. My original steering shaft was changed to the jeep style version but that didn't fix it.

I had bought a 160k mile typhoon that had a worn out suspension. If I remember right, it pull the right when I got on the gas and pulled to the left when took my foot off the pedal, you could almost steer the truck with the throttle. I completely rebuilt the suspension and that cured it. I suspect the shocks were a majority of the issue. It would also resonate on the highway if you hit a bump. It almost felt like you driving over another boats wake.
