Well, the time has finally arrived. My Syclone is on its way.

It is at the US/Canadian border right now and this Saturday I will go and retrieve it.


Sy #1907 70,000 miles

13.7 at the track

Here are a few of the replaced/added parts over the past few thousand miles.
Replaced vac lines
Tranny fluid and filter
New fuel injectors
Jabsco intercooler pump
Boost gauge
Transfer case
Rebuilt HD propshaft
New brakes
Jesse Alymer vac fitting
FPR
Ported stock turbo
Motor tie down
Blade o death
Driveshaft/propshaft loops ( to be installed )
Twin E-fans ( to be installed )



I want to say thanks to Russell for going way out of his way to get the truck to me and thanks to Dan for all of the information on the truck.

On a negative note... During shipping, the front bumper cover was damaged. Looks like I am in the market for a new one...

Looks like a nice truck Gord, congrats.

Deepending on how bacd the front bumper was damaged it may be able to be repaired. If not contact Mark(0260in3) I'm pretty sure he still has the bumper cover from his sy and it was an unpainted original too.

Thanks Tony. The truck was insured during transport so I may as well see what they will do for me. Really it is not a bad thing. The bumper on the truck was replaced at some point with a faded unit.

I wonder what they will say when I tell them that the OEM price is around 1000usd.

..It may take a while before I start turning wrenches on it though. The Ugly truck still needs some tuning and the SS will be put back together before I start on #1907.

Well, I am certainly not Nolan or Tony( well, then again who is) but you are more than welcome to use my shop anytime.

There is a hoist, pressure washer,glass beading cabinet, air tools, welder, caustic degreasing tank, etc. at your disposal anytime you want.
And I would be only too happy to turn wrenches on a Syclone !
Besides, Tony & Nolan are only a phone call away if we can't figure it out...

Here is a somewhat amusing update on the adverture that is importing #1907...

On Saturday I woke up at 5am to get the remaining paperwork in order and to meet with the owner of the shipping company that I am using. We left from Calgary heading South on highway 2 in a 2003 Dodge (Dually, 1 ton and diesel) hauling a 28 foot gooseneck van trailer.

The total trip to the border was only going to be 250 kms so I had budgeted 6 hours of driving and 2 hours of dealing with the border authorities. I had to be quite careful on my timeline because I had a wedding that I had to be in at 6pm back in Calgary.

I digress...

After an hour of driving, the Dodge started surging as we would pull up the few steep hills on the way. The surging turned into us coasting to stop in the town of Clareshome 100 feet awat from a Dodge dealership. After trying all of the side-of-the-road tricks that we knew, we walked over to the dealership which opened 1 minute after we arrived.

We were expected.

The mechanic that passed us on the side of the road won a 5 dollar bet that he could guess what our problem was...

As it turned out these '03 trucks have a fuel transfer pump problem that shows up on EVERY truck. The dealer had a backorder of the pumps for 18 units and changes them out at a rate of 1 a day.

Long story short, our trip was done. We made it back to town and the wedding was great.

We are making another attempt tomorrow, I will let you know how it goes.

I could not agree more Tony. The tow vehicle that I have at home is a Suburban which is much better suited.

360,000kms and still as reliable as any vehicle I have owned.


Post Script- Bingo on the Wife statement. (After all, she is the one who made me save enough money to buy the thing.)

Here is an update.

News flash!
Canadian and US border controllers are uneducated, lazy, spiteful and uncooperative fools.

The next shipment that I import from the US to Canada will be a 50ft container full of cocaine that I will transport by boat...

Here is an abridged point form series of events.

1-The Syclone is picked up in Texas (The fellow that I purchased it from was great)
Problem-The shipping company sent a van trailer with no ramps. The Seller had to rent a flatdeck truck last minute.

2-The Syclone was driven to the US border

Problem- the shipping company did not let them know that they were coming....see next point

3- The US border guards hold the truck and fines me 500 dollars US.

4- The driver unloads the truck and does 2000 dollars damage by ripping off the front bumper.

5- The truck driver continues on to Calgary leaving his load of vehicles in Montana (10 dollars USD/day storage)

6- I hitch up with the owner of the company and agree to drive the Sy back from the border.

7- The 2003 Dodge that we use as a tow truck breaks down in Clareshome and we abort the trip. We catch a ride back home.

8- The next day the owner drives down with 2 trucks to pick up the vehicles at the border...After paying the 500 dollar fine, they let them go.

9-Alls is well and the truck makes it home.....

9- Real life- The CANADIAN BORDER GUARDS step in and demand both a signed affidavit from me ( Understandable) and a Certified appraisal!?!?!

10- At the border they collect 3 tariffs. 100bucks for AC ( fair enough), $182 for the registration paperwork ( fair enough) and a 7% GST (OUCH!). Then they say that the truck cannot leave until the appraisal is done....Rather than checking the blue/black/red book value for the truck or simply doing the math and charging me 7% of what I paid for it.

11-Did I mention that the truck had not arrived yet? :wink:

Sorry to hear about all your trouble Gord. Makes me glad I bought a Ty already in Canada. Customs officials at the borders around hear are just as ignorant. I do electrical in the customs buildings some times, and the guards will have nothing to do, so they play pool on a little mini 18" pool table. God forbid some one drives up to the window and wants into Canada. They will just keep playing pool and make the people in their car wait, just to be jerks. Hopefully you'll get to drive your new truck before it snows!! Good Luck.

Gord was incredibly helpful and concerned that the sale not be a hassle for me, and, in the end, it probably wouldn't have been any easier had I taken the truck to a local dealership and traded it in... all seemed well as the truck drove off, and, despite my sadness and guilt at having "abandoned" my truck, I knew it was going to a good home...

Now they're tearing it to pieces...

I would have preferred to buy the truck locally but, the only Sy for sale that was in my budget was in Texas.

In the end, I should have listened to the advice that I was given and flown down to pick it up myself. I used a large company with the most expensive yellow page ad but that did not make things as easy as I thought it would.

As for the customs agents...I have no problem at all with rules, laws and regulations. I do, however, have a problem with people that do not know their own job. That applies to all industries. I find it impossible to believe how inept these people are...It is not like they are rocket surgeons...

I know how you feel. it is amazing how much we anthropomorphize these things. I feel genuinely sorry for the truck.

In the end it will be worth it, and the truck will be repaired properly.

I'm sorry to hear that all this happened... Though I don't know why they want an appraisal... Maybe because in their blue book or what ever its called, the syclone vin is only worth 2400cdn in excellent shape. And they think its worth more. When I went across, I gave them the receipt though it didn't have the sale price, they asked me for the sellers phone number and stupid me gave it to them, they called and got the sale price.... they told me that if they didn't get ahold of the seller that would have no choice but go by the book value.... Crapola... I could have saved about 1800 bucks!!!!!!

I hope that things get straighten out with your truck!!
