SY1107- Long time lurker Intro

Figured it was about time to come out from under my rock & give a somewhat formal intro. My name is Len and I've owner my truck since I drove it off the dealer lot in 1991. The first seven years of it's life, it was used as a full on work truck since I'm a contractor. I got 128000 miles out of the truck before the engine leaned out on a cylinder & required attention. That's where the journey began! The truck sat under cover in the garage for about 4 years until I purchased another truck from Jim Stokes with a Stroker motor in it. I only bought the truck for the motor, not the Michigan Rust Bucket that surrounded it, plus it was a pretty good deal for the whole truck. It took me a few more years to aquire other parts, 700R4 stuff from Brian Hartman, Willwoods & driveshafts from Dustin Performance, & a bunch of suspension stuff. Got my truck all back together during the winter of 2008 with tuning help & a modded ECU from Nolan. Since then we've been getting the truck up & running to it's potential. Last year we were fighting a too restrictive A2A for the 76MM Turbo, so I pulled the trigger & built a A2Water system(thread to follow). Hopefully the truck will get into the 10's this year with the new IC, but now we seem to be running out of Injector(84lb LowZ). The vicious cycle continues. Anyway, here's some pics as well, I'm kinda proud of her, as all SYTY owners are!

Welcome, nice looking truck you've got there.

Have you ever thought of putting some Ty mirrors on it?

Will that cage be enough to legally run in the 10's at your track?

who signed the glovebox door?

Cory McClenathan, Tony Shumacher, Antron Brown, Cruz Petregon, Ron Capps, Fast Jack Beckman, Robert Hight & Ashley Force Hood(for my wife;)) I took the glovebox down to the NHRA race at Sears Point last year, mmmmm the sting of nitro!!

Ty mirriors do look nice, & the power adjust is a plus, more than likely in the near future. From what I know(which is little to none) this cage is good from 11.49 down to 9.99. If I run any faster than 9.99 I'll have to go with the roll bars out the back, not something I want to do. Before I take it to Sears Point again I need to raise the side bars closer to my shoulder area, that was there only comment last year. Our local track is a little more mellow, but not much. I'm headed to Sacramento for a Test & Tune on Saturday, we'll see what they say? First time I'll have been there.

Very nice looking truck, glad you came out of the closet and joined us.

Cage technically is not good to 9.99, but I would guess most tracks won't complain. MOST.

Only way to get around rear bars is basically a full funny car cage with halo, etc.

What did you do with Jim Stokes truck after you grabbed the motor outta it?

I was just curious since the car facts on my truck said it was in Oregon for a bit, then down to Roseville where I bought it. and one day when we were working on it inside the passenger wheel-well where you can't see unless it was removed said "Jim Stokes is a wussy, Signed your boyfriend XXXOOO" :rotf:

Ya think? -20 years later !! :rotf::rotf:

You did not want to go bigger A2A? -or wanted to try A2W? What was the rationale?

Nice truck btw

Yeah, my wife says I need to get out more often, but I say more time for my toys:D.

A2A vs A2W for most of what I do with the truck, which is drag race it is optimal. First the pressure drop from one end of the intercooler to the other is about .05psi. So if I feed 20psi into it I'll get 19.95psi out of it, A2A's not even close just due to the bends for the piping. You can't get much shorter route from the turbo to the throttle body than what I used, making the throttle response awesome. The intercooler system consists of the custom intercooler, a 1"x24" heat exchanger, where the AC condenser use to be, & a 8 gal tank w/ a built in pump. I've run around now on a couple of 20 mile romps to see my intake temps lower when I got back than when I left, & that's just running water, no ice. Intake temps are down 50C from my A2A. With this system running ice water, I should be able to cool my intake temps well below ambient, even in the middle of summer. Plus the added benefit reduces heat soak. Just leave the intercooler pump running & the intercooler can cool itself between rounds. Our trucks came with an air to water, I just beefed it up a little;). As long as the weather holds out this weekend, I'll hopefully get some times in Sac. this weekend:tup:. See if it was worth it.

Nice. What does the engine consist of? Block, crank, heads?

Bowtie Block, Billet Crank(Moldex I Think), Massaged L35's w/ LS Beehive Springs, Titanium locks & retainers, Upper & Lower Intakes CNC ported to match, 58MM Throttle Body

Glad to see you post here with pictures of your truck, Len. It looks like you are coming along well. The 84's will be tight but should still be capable with your current goal. I do hit 90% DC running enough boost to hit low 10's.

Jimmy - Motor is the same as mine. All Stokes motors had the same build... bowtie block, moldex forged stroker crank, oliver rods, custom full-dish J&E forged turbo pistons, L35 heads.... most owners change out the heads since there are better options out there than the L35's. I have never seen or heard of an example where he deviated from his recipe.
