Sy vs. Lighting (A NOVEL)

(since there has been talk lately on this)

Ok, guys I went to the store the other day and this is what I came up with...There were a few topic with people wondering about L's vs. sy's...here is what the results where on the street!

I came accross 2 guys by chance both lightings who didn't know eachother. At first neigher took notice of my sy and one was directly in front of me at a light and the other just rolled past me on the drivers side lane next to me--next to the other L and both gave eachother thumbs up...I was like, OH MY this could be real real real fun...For the first time i was in Lighting hell. Two very nice trucks one black and one light grey. The guy in front of me never did give me attention but when I reved me engine the guy next to the L in front of me looked back and smiled. Nice guy probably in his mid 30's...The black L turned and I came up next to the grey and we bothed rolled down windows. Only going about 5 mph now as we have traffic in front of us and comeing to a light. He say wanna run in a nice manner and of course I can't turn this down. We cruise side by side when finally after a few blocks we were clear of cars in front of us. This set up the first run of 4. We cruised and both hit it at same time at about 7mph...we went to about 60 and he had me by about a fender. Next was from dead stop at a light I prayed I finally got. I new if it was that close from a roll, i'd get him from a stop...Lauched with 6 psi, he spins a bit and I jump out 2 cars and at about 70 had to shut him down when i was still ahead by 1-1 1/2. I got him-------score 1-1! Next was from about a 10 mph up to about 80 and he had me the whole way by about a 3/4 car length.--------2-1 Lighting...Next was the best of all...we stopped right in the middle of the road. Both of us by thins time where impressed by eachothers trucks. Last race was dead stop, i told him you go and i'll go when you do (i gave him the advantage on this) We agreed to take it up to 100mph from dead stop....Launched with 5.5 psi about and jumped out with him starting the line to about only about 1/2 car on him. I maintained this position tell about 65 when, he fell back about 1/4 more or so...I head that blower winding in my ear the whole time as i had my window down. Not untill about 85 did he start gaining slowly...At 100 mph I had him still by about 1/2 car. TWO VERY CLOSE AND VERY EVEN TRUCKS. Next light we where done and with our windows down got a chance to talk just for a sec. Nice guy both said nice trucks. I asked him if he new what a syclone was and he said "Oh ya". Then this is what got me...he asked this: "got a small block in there"? Then i was thinking, ok he doesnt' have a clue what a syclone is...I said "no man, its a 4.3 turbo." Then he says how many horses...This I have no clue about as I have never had it to a dyno...With my mods, and what some of my NWSTP guys pulled with related mods, I told him probably about 350 or so. He said, nice, I got 420 with the mods i have done. I didn't get a chance to ask what mods those where. This is because his next question was "do you got a blower on it?" I'm thinking, "blower?" Didn't i just say "turbo". So i said "no, man its turbo'd"...then to my amazement he says, "ya i know, so its turbo'd, but ya got a blower on it"? Now i'm really thinking, ok maybe its just me, but a syclone with a turbo and a blower or any motor for that matter i don't think i have ever seen...Keep in mind i'm new to this, so i'm thinking, ok this guy is either a NICE, but total idiot, or he is the MAN, and knows how to turbo and supercharge a motor at once. Anyway, we then went our own ways.

Conclusion:
I don't think the guy was to bright, but 420HP was probably a fair estimate as i think my 350 is. From a roll I couldn't real him in, from a dead stop, he couldn't real me in. My best and fair guess is a quarter mile, i'd get him by a 1/2 to 1/4...it would be very close, only going to my advantage because we'd be from a dead stop. One thing to not is this...My truck was running t-1 16 at the time...If we both went and put come 110+ race gas in our trucks and I could turn that boost up to t-1 or t-20, I think i'd get him even more and would probaly, slowly pull him in from a roll. Anyway, a good story for ya guys with some very fair and honest info.

FINAL SCORE: SYCLONE 2-------LIGHTING 2

If your wondering on the mods i got...here they are...there the most basic and most are safty mods. I'm sure many of ya can relate!

I gotta give it to you on the runs. Wow, we need more of that here. In College Station I will be the only one representing syty's. We have a few lightnings but not 4.3turbo(blower)lol, around, yet. What do you mean by the T-116 T-1 T20 business, are these modes for your chip?

Those are settings on the Ultimate Chip...

T1 is stock like timing and the 16 means psi of boost...

What i would have have liked is some race gas and used a t2 setting (more agressive timing) and tured boost up to 20psi...Big difference!

Fantastic story!! I would like to have known what would of happened if the Syclone was running stock chip and the Lightning didn't have any mods either. Oh well..

PS: Were these 2001+ Lightnings? Did they have the rice-burner tail lights? (Easy way to tell)

Yep, you might be able to use it with Alky. I can go T2-18 with W/A with no more knock retard than with the T1 programs. Still in the tunning phase, so I've not tried with more boost or with T3.

Peace,

So the Ultimate chip, does everyone agree that it is the best? You all seem to like it and use it. Is it still in production?
How much and where can I purchase it.
Look at me, no typhoon yet and already collecting parts.

Nice street racing story Jeff  At least I know what to expect now if I ever run into a Lightning. Sounds like a good match.

Obijuan, yes in my opinion and the same for others, the Ultimate is the ultimate. It does many things that other chips do not do. There are different versions. The maker will choose the chip for your particular combination. Wait til you have a truck and a known(exact) combo before getting the chip. If you make more modifications to your combo that exceed the parameters of your Ultimate, it can be sent back for reprogramming to match your new mods for a very reasonable price. Check the links for the site address. (its way too late for me to remember what it is exactly).

The 2001 and 2002 Lightning have 380HP stock and with a chip you get 40HP extra so it's possible that he had 420HP.
