Re: SY/TY/BRAVADA Towing ??
Larger radiator on the Charge Air Cooler is a better thought.
I don't care how much power your 700R4 is supposed to take. Put it in a Sy/TY, and it will be broken. Not many other motors make 500+ft/lbs in semi-stock condition. Couple that with AWD, and it will kill the trans. There are a select few builders who understand the true level of abuse that the trans takes in a Sy/Ty setup. Go ask the SIlverado SS guys that are making good power what they think of the 4L60E, and you'll get the same answer. Torque+AWD=broken trans in short order.
If you really want to tow. Here are my thoughts. You milage may vary, and I express no warranties neither expressed nor implied.
Get a more effecient turbo (This doesn't mean larger, just more effecient), or turn the boost down a bit. Long times in boost lead to hot inlet air temps, and that leads to detonation, and of course that will break your motor in short order......Replace the POS 700R4 with a 4L80E. This is spendy, but you know it will hold, and that won't be a concern anymore. Get some rear helper air-bags. There are a few kits available for the 1G S10 Blazer. The rear suspension on the Ty is the same as those, negating the generally frowned upon airshocks, and ride levelling system.
The BIGGEST concern I would have is spending a ton of time in boost, and the tranny temps in general. Stock trucks break transmissions all the time, as well as motors if you don't keep an eagle eye on them. In the end you'll have a ton of cash into converting your nice new sport-truck into a tow-pig. Keep the bravada, and throw a 5.7L Vortec 350 in it, with a 4L80E behind it, and tow away. Get a Typhoon for the stop-light warrior, and cruiser that it is. Making a Typhoon a good tow vehicle is like trying to kill an elephant with a fly-swatter.....You can do it, but in the end there are a ton better ways to get it done!
