Subframe Connectors?

I haven't ever heard anyone mention anything about them. I'm finally getting around to finalizing what I want frame, suspension and axle wise, and was wondering if these are even applicable to us. Talking it over with dad, he thinks (but isn't sure) that we have a full frame, and thus, couldn't utilize them like a car would. He wants to do a four-link/air-bag suspension setup. I'm not so sure about the air-ride idea, and we're up in the air about the frame connectors.

There are various other factors as well. I need to figure out if I only need a 9" ford rear end, or a 12 bolt. Both would be built, and the goal for now is 500hp, and probably 850 down the road.

Anyway, way off topic. Subframe connectors. Necessary, or not applicable?

That's what we thought. What are the thoughts on a four-link/air-bag setup?

A four link wold be awesome for handling. But really if it doesn't make it go faster or stop quicker it's waste a waste of $ IMO.I'd do front coilovers and leave the rear alone.

I think airbags are cute.

Yeah, I like the idea of being able to manually adjust and correct for lift laungh sway in a 2wd vehicle, and the adjustable hardness/softness of the ride. Not so fond of lowriding though, which is why I was kind of like, "Eww." (Because I tend to associate airbags with lowriders... So I'm car racist... you all are too)

Sometimes I do a little light autocrossing with my friend in his 2.3L mustang, so improved handling is fine with me.

I just want to have the whole "Do it once, and be able to leave it alone." satisfaction in each phase of the rebuild/restoration. I don't think I would need coilover's though. Isn't that just for you AWD people?

Sorry man,I didn't see that you have an SGT.

If I were you I'd part out the GT and get a Sy.

So, what about the front suspension then? Airbags all around is what I'm thinking.

I wouldn't let those idiots touch any of my vehicles let alone come within 1,000 yards of my property.

Man what kind of BS is that!!! You should part out your Ty and buy something rarer like a SGT.
LOL it's called sarcasm. I was talking about the AWD's,and I don't know anything about the 2WD's. ;)

Good idea on the Ty.I'll start taking it apart ASAP.

My 3 link hooks way better than the leafs could so not only better for handling, but better short times as well.

You tell 'em!

I'll have to look into the tubular control arms. Anything special I need to know about them?

Re: Subframe Connectors?

I'm actually planning on doing a 4-link rear set-up on my GT after I'm done putting the LS1 into it. This is what I plan on buying pretty soon:

you can even get a narrowed 9 inch housing with it, although I'd rather have a 12-bolt...

Hope this helps

Re: Subframe Connectors?

Thanks Taylor. My build is actually going to be a lot like yours as a matter of fact. I'm putting in an LS2 instead though. I'm hoping that by using new technology I can take advantage of all the gizmos and electronics that are compatible with it. What power levels are you hoping to achieve, if you don't mind me asking?

Re: Subframe Connectors?

Well, I don't really have a specific power level I'm shooting for. But my plan is a twin screw supercharger and forged internals. So it should have *some* power :rotf:

Have you started your swap yet? I'm pretty well into my swap. Should be mounting the battery/fuel cell, running fuel system, starting wiring and putting some stuff back together this weekend.
