Re: Stock Motor and New Turbo Are Both Gone - Need Some Advice
the damage looks worse on the first one than the second. Maybe your third turbo would be ok?
Just fooling man - that looks bad.
Def engine inspection - headers is an interesting idea though! Can't see how an engine could run if it was spewing out the amount of metal required to do that kind of damage.
Re: Stock Motor and New Turbo Are Both Gone - Need Some Advice
I was thinking the ATR headers could be losing pieces of flash or whatever it's called, but I doubt it. Right now, the truck is parked and covered. I've asked Mike Lee for a quote for a built longblock. I'm not going to mess with it until I get the new motor and replacement turbo situation sorted out. One thing I'm sure of is it's not going to sit for months or years. I need it running again soon as it's my main vehicle now. I appreciate the help guys.
Re: Stock Motor and New Turbo Are Both Gone - Need Some Advice
remember last time you said it was the engine and I said Its the turbo. I was right then. I would hate for you to put a new engine in just to smoke the turbo from the old headers. I would send them to mike to have them inspected. Again Jeremy, call me if you need help. I am always here for a friend and a sy owner. Untill yours is up and running I will keep driving my around. We need at least one Sy in the bay running at all times.
Re: Stock Motor and New Turbo Are Both Gone - Need Some Advice
i'll work on the quote monday.. but your turbo is under warranty. thats one of the nice things about the turbonetics stuff and the fact we are one of their major distributors. Anyone else would void the warranty due to engine failure or something non turbo related. The compressor is now touching down due to a balance issue.
are you sure you arent missing some bolts? Its very easy to drop a bolt into the exhaust manifold when working on the truck, especially with the turbo off. Maybe you got something getting tossed around in the headers?
Re: Stock Motor and New Turbo Are Both Gone - Need Some Advice
Its possible Mike. He does have some screws loose. Oh wait,... Thats me.
I dropped a nut for the turbo down my manifold when I was installing the turbo. I had to fish it back out.
Re: Stock Motor and New Turbo Are Both Gone - Need Some Advice
I'll go ahead and pull the headers when I get some free time and have a look. I'm sure I didn't drop anything into the header. I run my truck really hard, always 20-25psi. I'm thinking these little 60-1 turbos may just not like running at those high RPMs? I'm thinking of upgrading to a GTQ67...we'll see. Mike - will look for your quote, thanks.
Re: Stock Motor and New Turbo Are Both Gone - Need Some Advice
the turbonetics turbos are all big shaft so you dont have shaft flex at high boost which was more common on some of the older/cheaper turbos. Looking at the pics, something went through the turbo, it doesnt look like it just went out of balance and touched down.
Re: Stock Motor and New Turbo Are Both Gone - Need Some Advice
Good info, thanks. I'll pull the headers and downpipe when I have a chance and look for metal pieces. Should I go ahead and ship the Turbonetics 60-1 back to you? I've already removed the turbine housing and other fittings. PM me the quote for the engine when you have it done Mike, thanks.
Re: Stock Motor and New Turbo Are Both Gone - Need Some Advice
you could run a filter, the kind that looks like a fuel filter, but made for oil lines, for your turbo and then if you ever chew a bearing you dont have to worry about getting metal in the turbo

Re: Stock Motor and New Turbo Are Both Gone - Need Some Advice
Still waiting for a quote on a built motor. I've contacted several vendors. No motivation to do anything with it until I have a new motor on the way. Is a GTQ67 turbo a big step up from a 60-1? I'm keeping my 2500-stall billet 9/11 converter because this will be mostly street driven. I see a lot of guys running the GT67 turbos...are they more efficient at high boost (20-25psi)?
