Smoked my Motor

I smoke my Sy motor last night. I was on the highway and the check guages light came on and I saw no oil pressure. I pulled off to the shoulder and it stalled before I even came to a stop. There was oil all over the driver side of the truck and the motor was blazing hot. I got it towed home but it wont start and I cant turn it over by hand. Any reccomendations on where to get a reliable somewhat affordable replacement? I can do the swap myself...

Re: Smoked my Motor

I have a .030 freshly machined block and caps with cam bearings installed or 1 factory long block that needs cleaning up sludge but no knocks and new heads. or factory block with wrist pin knock. I live in Destin but I'm planning a trip to Brooksville Tampa soon. Let me know if you need something.

Thanks, Nick

Wrist pin knock?? Are the pins worn or something...how did you determine this?

Re: Smoked my Motor

Okay maybe a bearing. It was caused by overboost, stock WG on a 20g. learned my lesson. By buddy who helped me with it said that's what it sounded like to him.

Hey Jug- what mods did you have on that motor? Was it a stock bottom end? Just wondering.....

Sorry to hear, but hopefully it will be better than before when its back on the road!

Good luck

Re: Smoked my Motor

It was a stock bottom end. I work in West Palm off of Belvadere and live in Palm Beach Gardens. I only been here a few months so I dont know who that is. Thanks for the replies...

Re: Smoked my Motor

One of the oil cooler lines to the radiator busted and I lost it all before the light came on and I pulled off to the shoulder on the highway.

Stab it and steer it
Re: Smoked my Motor

I'll bet that maybe less than 1% of us have them but they make a low oil pressure shutdown sw. I know I don't.

Re: Smoked my Motor

Yes. Commonly used on specialty engines like generator sets that don't see an operator on a regular basis. Just one app of many that use them though.

Re: Smoked my Motor

Ok, Im ordering a rebuilt motor from this website that I found reccomended in another thread. http://www.precisionengine.com/index.html

What else should I replace while everything is apart? Motor mounts, etc...

Got a link to the thread? Who recommended it?

I'd be wary of buying an engine from anyone who doesn't build them for these trucks on at least a semi-regular basis. It sure would suck to shell out $2000 to get the engine and find regular pistons, higher compression, etc...and then be stuck spending even more to make it right. I'd feel waaaayyyy more comfortable buying from an owner/builder.

Re: Smoked my Motor

I searched and searched and cant find that thread anymore. I dont know, I cant afford a $10,000 race motor and I need this truck running like yesterday. Anyone have any better suggestions for me?
