Smog guy pissed me off!!!

For the last 6 years I have been going to the same California smog station to to get my vehicles tested. I left work early today so I could get there before they closed. When I got there, There was some new putz standing in the parking lot talking to his buddy.

I parked. Then I got out and walked to the shop door and waited for him to quit goofing off with his buddy.

That didn't happen.

Irritated. I walked back to MySy, started it up and got ready to leave. Then he stopped what he was doing and walked up to my driver door. He asked me what I wanted. I told him a SMOG Test. He said "I don't think so. This thing sounds modified". Then I explained to him that MySy was stock. It cam this way from the factory. He said that he never seen a truck like this before so it had to be modified. Then he asked me to open the hood. So I did. He took one look at the motor and called me a liar and said "There is no way this thing is stock, I will not smog it".

Pissed off now... I told him that he was a piece of shit that just wanted to fuk off at work with his buddies instead of doing his job which was making money for the company that he work for and just because he has never seen a vehicle like mine before doesn't mean that it is not stock and not smog-able. After a few more choice words I told him that after 6 years of bringing my vehicles there I was never coming back. and then a few more choice words before I finally drove away.

Sometimes I wish MySy had a button that switched from AWD to RWD so I could smokem

Needless to say I need to find a new smog station that knows Sy.

Fired? Really? Just for being ignorant and not knowing what a Syclone was, and because of that, not knowing if what he was looking at was actually OEM or not? Well that, and being a douche about it all.

He probably wouldn't end up fired anyways. Maybe a lecture, a write-up, something. But I doubt they would fire him.

I was pissed, but i dont want him to loose his job over his lack lack of SyTy. A good reaming would be nice for his lack of customer service and turning away a repete paying customer.

Usually I have the original guy smog it twice. once off the State computer to see if it will pass and then a second time to the State computer when i know it will pass.

This way, If I need to make an adjustment. I can do it right there. It costs me doubble. but at lesat i dont have to miss work and come back another day.

I know how you feel. I dread having to goto the inspection station in MA. Even when my truck was stock, I had a station refuse to inspect me because my stock exhaust was too loud. He crawled up under my truck and told me their was no way dynomax mufflers were stock. Another guy put pair of scratches in drivers front fender from his buckle :rant:

I wasn't saying he should get fired over lack of knowledge, no one knows everything, but lack of customer service and respect to customers.

His lack of professionalism should be brought to the attention of his boss. I would have pointed to the underhood emissions label and told him that it's indeed a production vehicle and at least look it up in the computer.

I do inspections where I work, and there are a few unpleasant people. They think I can affect the test results, that it's some sort of scam, etc. It does get frustrating sometimes, especially considering that I'm not paid to do inspections and renewals.

Also.... besides the CA smog thing. I have to have MySy inspected at a CA STAR (Smog Test and Repair) inspection center. WTH. Now they can pick through MySy with a fine tooth comb until they find something to replace and charge me for.

Finally got to see my original Smog guy. After several tries. MySy would not pass. I actually had better results with wideband O2, Ostrich and TP than I did with stock set-up. We tried several tunes and tricks to get her to run to NEW California smog specs and was unsuccessful.

At least he didn't charge me.

I'm out of ideas on what to do. I might need to rebuild.

Is your truck stock, or what mods are you running?

When they used to run us on the Dyno ... I actually had to request a manager , the kid was going to put it on the 2wd dyno and was arguing with me ---

I know if you retard the timing it will raise the combustion temps & burn the fuel a bit more, just need to know how much timing you should pull.

I use to run stock timing & disconnect the brown wire w/black stripe (IIRC on the color), & smog test it, o* timing I believe you do this to pass smog. But you get a C.E.L. when you do this.

I need to do some tuning & put the Sy on a exhaust sniffer before the next test.
I have 36 lb Ferd blue top injectors but the engine is 100% original stock long block.

When i first bought my Syclone i took it down to the local safety/emissions facility and the guy wouldn't pass it for safety because he said there was no front suspension, said the previous owner must of cutout the springs. Said it was riding on the frame, i walked over and started pushing down on the front end to show him some bounce and said how is that possible if its sitting on the frame. Nope. He didn't even care to take off a wheel or lift it to have a look, said it was a waste of time. I told him off, paid for the emissions part and left. Went to another safety place and said they couldn't do it because i already had one facility involved so you have to go back to same facility. So i go down to the local GMC dealership and thankfully the service manager knew what a Syclone was, had a look at it and wrote on a piece of paper explaining that the truck is completely stock and stapled his card to the paper. So i go back to dumbshit and hand him the paper as well my Chilton's book that referenced the 4wd section explaining the torsion bar and shock. Takes one look at it and says oh you should of told me it was 4wd, never seen one of these. I just kept quiet so he would pass it.
