Should the Ultimate lock it ?

Someone told me that my Ultimate chip should lock my TC up at around 67mph. The way it looks now mine doesn't. What do you all think ?

It has to lock it at some point. It cant be a WOT non lock up thing. This would burn the tranny in a couple days.
Hey Angela , what was the transmissions temps on the dyno ?

I don't know because the guy wouldn't do any more runs after 4. He couldn't measure it. That's why he said that I had converter or transmission slippage. Soon I'll go to a guy who has done it before (when the sy was stock). Someone told me to lock the converter by putting a paperclip between the A and F terminal on the ALDL connector. That way it's impossible to get the slippage. Any one heard of that before ? It should give me .20 advantage on the track as well.

I've had many problems with lockup before. My friends truck was not locking up with the Ultimate chip and we had to do it manually. Then he got a newer version of the Ultimate, and it started locking up properly at about 60-70mph. Now sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, and it doesn't seem to matter if you manually lock it up or not.

Take a look at the brake switch under the dash. Its 12 years old and it might do that. When i say the brake switch i dont mean the brake lamp switch , but the other one in front of it. I bet this is your problem

As far as I know, the stock ecm don't lock the tranny under WOT. That is why many do manual TC lockup switches. The TC arfter its stall rpm is supose to be pretty close to lock (slippying only a few hundered rpm)

The stock utlimate programing lock the TC under partial throttle around 45mph in OD and 35 mph in Drive (same as stock).

I don't know, my old truck had the stock chip and originally it didn't lock up, but after i rebuilt the transmission it would lock up in 3rd gear at full throttle. I gained about 5mph because of this.

So, if we have a switch to lock up the tranny, is it better on the tranny to lock it up before launch when driving spiritedly or to leave it unlocked. In other words, will it trim a couple tenths off of your quarter mile time at the cost of added tranny wear or is it better to do this?

I would just lock it up in 3rd gear at about 60mph, that's where you will get the most gain out of it. From 0-60 it's not really going to help. It shouldn't hurt the tranny any.

my brake switch for the converter lock up has a problem, I think this is causing the torque converter to never lock. (it always thinks the brakes are on). could this be hurting my tranny or causing any other unwanted effects other than slower times?

When I'm ripping through the gears from a stop my indicator light comes on at some point (I have many other things to pay attention to so not sure at what exact mph this occurs) so it's doing it's job I'm pretty sure I guess I'm still not completely understanding why people put a manual switch in if it locks up for you automatically when it's supposed to.

Locked or unlocked its not a big deal with a stock TC. With a higher stall TC ....thats where all the problems begin. The temps are a LOT higher and there is more pressure loss from the higher stall. Then the clutches fail and we say "man ive got the power to do that" :p
Id say a stall at max 2800 would keep things safe. Just my :2cents:

So I should be pretty safe with my 2800 stall ?
