I found a 1984 buick grand national for sale and im thinking about buying it. i havent seen it yet but heres what i know. 220,000 miles newer turbo(3-4 years old), Rebuilt trans w/ approx 50,000 on it. Had all body work and new paint 8-9 years ago. Guy said it was rusty now. Say it still runs and drives but not great. Had interior redone but says its in need of it again. He is the original owner. Has a check engine light on now but thinks its because it needs a throttle body gasket. Only asking $1500.00. What do you think? Im going to go look at it tomorrow (wed.) PM.

The wierd thing is, this one is from here, St Cloud, probobly within 10 minutes from my house. Haven't seen it around town before.

there is only what 800 something Sonoma GTs, doesnt mean much.
the older GNs arent worth much, and if its all rusted out to hell and beat on, its really not worth it.
the GN market isnt the greatest, and thinking an 84 will be something special, it wont happen. I see 87 We-4 right now that are mint and have a hard time selling. Sure the car has a great name behind it, but that is about it.

My little bro just purchased a mint 87 from a guy who had no Idea what it was. It was his son's who passed away and he just letf it in the garage for four years.. it only has 22k on it and my bro got it for $4000 cash..

87, moonroof car needed minor paint (lock punched on decklid) ran like a raped gorilla looked real nice some guy from ohio bought it, I really didnt need another money pit
i love gn's. i also had an 87. but the problem with them is that most of the buick parts are hard to get. buick discontinued the crank,block and some interior parts. i needed a door pull strap for the passenger side. i contacted everyone in the gn world and everybody told me the same line, " nobody sells them, they were discontinued." even reproductions were not being made. thats why i sold mine. kicks ass cars, just no parts for them

FWIW 1500 for a beat 84 GN is way too high.. Look on the www.turbobuick.com board to get an idea of what the "hot air" cars are going for. The 86/87 cars are intercooled and MUCH easier to make faster not to mention hold their value a LOT more.
Ive seen hot airs that were nice drivers go for ~1k and 86/87s that were beat to hell and high milage go for 3500+ on the buick board. Buying one from an individual that isnt into turbo buicks can get you one even cheaper.
The only thing the 84 has going for it is:
Good turbo crank if its the original crank.
109 block (more desirable)
BRF 200R4 trans.
Prolly has the 8.5" rear diff (not sure on that year though).
Possibly some interrior and misc parts that someone is looking for.

Int. parts on an 84 are a diff color and they have the Lear Seigler leather 40 way seats.
8.5 w/ 3.42's on all FI TR's.
Hood=$ 400.00-500.00
Decklid spoiler=$ 250.00
Steering wheel (even shot) worth $ 100.00 in credit @ Kirbans.
Alum brake drums? bumper supports?
Wiring harness-ECM-header panel-turbo(even if only a core)-ect.
All kinds of misc. int. parts for 84's only worth $ to poor bastards like me.
It's worth 1500.00 for parts if you took the time to part it out, if the body is a basket case and you want one to drive find a hot-air T for $2500. and I/C it for 1500.00. A lot less $ for the same car.
