Shocks for the Aspen??

Ok, so I bought Aspen 0261, and it needs shocks. I put Blilstein shocks and Belltech leafs on my last TY and it rode like a dump truck. Terrible. I'm looking for a much softer ride as I'm not racing it or tracking it. I'm driving it on NJ roads. I want a smoother ride. I know these trucks notoriously ride hard but I'm sure the right setup will help alot. Also this truck has blocks and wedges in it, which not only lowered it, but seemed to move the rear wheels forward a bit?? I like the ride height but won't mind if it comes up a little for a better ride. So I'm listening for suggestions. I'm willing to spend some good money for a better ride. Thanks guys, this is only the first upgrade needed, I want to start here.

Cheers,

Keep her original and go with the bilsteins, the fiberglass leafs is what gave you the bouncy ride. Although they had air shocks as OEM you can't go wrong with the bilsteins to match the front as OEM equipment.

Goodluck with your new addition.

Re: Shocks for the Aspen??

Typhoon didn't originally have Bilsteins. They did make 2 different Bilsteins models for SyTy, one was the HD. I would guess that you had the bilstein HD's. When I owned my typhoon KYB monomax were a popular option and they rode reasonable well. I have bellech lower springs and I would recommend those again with good shocks.

Re: Shocks for the Aspen??

Thanks for the responses. Sean how can I justify spending $1000 on just shocks? I mean I'm sure they are nice, but has to be a cheaper quality shock. And maybe I did get the HDs by accident? I was 'shocked' at the ride after I got them. Aren't Bilsteins supposed to be best in the biz? And fiberglass leafs give bouncy ride? Huh? It was too hard of a ride, I'm looking for a little flex/give in the ride. I want it to float a little not give me an enema every time I hit a bump. Do the coil overs in front do it justice? It seems to me the problems are in back more than front.

$1000? The Rear afcos from Sportmachines are like $400. With my setup the truck rides like a newer car.

Misread your original post, I thought you had fiberglass leafs not belltechs. I have seen good results from the bilsteins with belltech leafs. Although the best would be to go with the sportmachines rear afco shocks. The spring and adjustable shock will leave you with a completely adjustable ride from smooth to stiff. Finish it off in the future with there front coilover kit and have one solid riding truck ready for anything.

Bilstein HD are cheap and effective. The blocks need to go .No need for anything exotic on your bone stock truck.

Off topic: Please tell me you are going to paint the cladding Argent.

I fitted these Delco-Bilsteins (540-4) to the front of mine.

I swapped out some Monro-matics which were horrid. Really harsh and thumped down. Still have Monroes on the back and hope to get rid eventually.
I believe Delco has discontinued these now, but you can still find them for about $35 if you shop around. I paid a fair bit more than that when I bought them.

They ride much nicer for 'me'. With the speed bumps and potholes I have to negotiate whenever I go out, they suit me fine, but could/may be too soft for some. But they are Bilsteins!
