Service that will sell your car/truck.

As most of you know that I have been trying to sell my Typhoon for quite a while.

Couple of problems:
1. Most of the people that call show interest, but never come to look at it (distance), but wanna talk about it. Lots of out of state calls.
2. Its hard to get financing for a 14 year old truck.
3. Not too many people know what they are....from truck trader and non car people.

So I get this call today from a guy that will sell it for me....for $100, but the guy wants a $100 on a credit card before he lists it and finds a buyer. He guarantee's my money back if it is not sold in 90 days, plus this company does financing too....which is part of the problem selling these trucks. Not too keen on giving someone my credit card, or $100 before it sells....but anyways...

He said that the person looking for the vehicle will be pre-approved for a loan and he will sell the vehicle for the full $13,500 I am asking, not the lousy offers of $10K, that I have gotten (with out people even looking at the truck). I guess they make money off the buyers not the sellers. Sounds like a good deal, right?

Well I am not sure what to do here, it sounds like a really good service, and they sell 95% of the cars/trucks they list. He said he saw my autotrader ad and they only list vehicles they think they can sell.

What would you do?

The site is www.greatcarsandtrucks.com ... Anyone have any experiences with this type of services or any thoughts....?

Re: Service that will sell your car/truck.

sounds like a scam all of the brokers Ive ever dealt with get a % based on sale price not a flat fee up front. Hell give me a 100 bucks to hold for 90 days and ill try to sell the truck for you.

Eesh - sounds resonable. I'm with you thought about the CC number. I'd rather hand the guy $100 cash, if it doesn't sell and he takes my money I chalk it up to a lesson learned.

Some banks offer temporary cards for a set limit - might be worth looking in to.

Exactly what I was thinking....but I mean it sounds reasonable...they have a website ect....I dunno....just want to get some opinions, I am definately not going to give or hand out a CC number, cause there is too much risk, worse comes to worse I would write a check...

Re: Service that will sell your car/truck.

This is the number I got the call from:

The phone number "(403) 444-9259" is based in Calgary, AB and the registered carrier is Allstream. However, due to number portability, some numbers have been transferred to a new service provider other than the registered carrier.

THis is the number he wants me to call him back at:

The phone number "(313) 279-0340" is based in Detroit, MI and the registered carrier is Focal Communications Corp. However, due to number portability, some numbers have been transferred to a new service provider other than the registered carrier.

Go and get a pre-paid gift card for $120.00. Give him that CC number.

That way, no ties to your credit or anything.

I always check with the local Better Business Bureau of the area if there is one. Especially if I'll be handing down a large sum of money for a product. Based on what I read from the squeeky wheel, I definately wouldn't deal with them at all.

When my wife and I were trying to sell our 93 Lumina Z34, I had the car listed in the local paper. I got a very similar call from a guy who wanted $90 to sell it for me for the full asking price. I agree, it sounds to shady to be true, especially giving them a CC number.

Re: Service that will sell your car/truck.

For financing why dont you suggest Capital One? They have an auto finance deal I used and it was so easy to do. I applied online. You must designate if you are buying private owner or from a dealer, but you can change it later. I gave the basic info, and told them what I wanted to spend. In about an hour I had an email saying I was approved, and to call them to activate my loan. I called to ask some more questions and I was told all the answers were in "the packet" which they were sending out. In three days I had a blank check that I could make out to almost anyone to buy whatever I wanted at about 8% interest for up to 72 months. The check minimum was $7500, and my max was $14000- which is what I requested.

I found a truck for sale, flew out and bought it with the check. There is some paperwork that must be done before the check can be cashed but its all easily done in less than an hour if youve got a notary and a fax machine.

I would recommend it highly. No questions about what I was buying, and I got a decent rate on an older vehicle.

Everytime I list a car in autotrader I get that call. Never taken it. Just sounds to fishy.

Re: Service that will sell your car/truck.

it is a scam, its run out of calgary and i had some buddies that worked there.

the "money back guarentee" only works if you pay extra for it, and you only get half of that back, fine print they forget to mention. not only that, no one visits the site and they don't have people looking for the vehicles. basically they just get the autotraders from all over north america that are a month old, then call every car in there until they find someone who didn't sell their car. since the employee's are actually just contract workers they will say anything to get you to buy in, they get about $40 canadian off every sale. most of them use fake names as well, my friend used the name "duncan" with customers, so when someone called back, pissed because they couldn't get their refund, they ask around for a "duncan" and no one has any idea what they are talking about.

stay away, trust me

I would agree with the above statements, sounds like a scam. I get similiar calls with my Impala listed on Autotrader.

Its amazing that they are still in Calgary, someone should shut them down, cause thats not right. I am sure there are a lot of people that need to sell a car, that fall for this scam.

**** them, no way I am doing that shit, I just feel bad for all the other poor people....
