Sears Viper tires update

It looks as though they have been discontinued  However, I did some research, the tires were made for Sears by Cooper tire. Interestingly enough, it looks like Cooper has 3 different tire series that seem to share the same casing (basic tire carcass) as the Viper. Cooper has the Cobra GTZ, XST, and GTH. All 3 of these tires have a 9.35" tread width, the GTH seems to be the same (although tread pattern is different) as the Sears Viper HX, same UTQG rating 400/A/A too. According to the info on Cooper's web page the XST should provide better traction based on its UTQG rating. Hmmm? Viper.....Cobra? makes sense :D

The Futura brand tires sold at Pep Boys is another tire made by Cooper Tire. The Futura super sport GTX (H rated) is also a 9.35" tread width tire with a 400/A/A rating. Another Viper HX clone!! Cool Pep Boys has some big sales on tires sometimes!! :)

Thx Brad

Damn thats interesting. I also was disappointed when I talked to clerk at Sears Auto and found out the Vipers are discontinued.

None of those tires has the same tread pattern as the Viper though. Are you going to try one of these tires? I'd be interested to hear what kind of 60's you get. I like the 9.35" tread width.
