Running terrible after sitting, need some input.

Decided to change my intercooler housing today, only to realize something else is totally buggered now.

Apparently I unknowingly stepped into a time machine at some point, it's been 17 months since I last started the truck (I thought it was like 6).

I keep it plugged into a battery tender, so that seems fine. However the truck runs like hell.

I pumped all the gas out and put new gas in, but the conditions persist. I have a new laptop setup and still have an old auto prom I use for datalogging. I haven't been able to get it to read the ALDL data stream today.

It starts right up, but idles rich, sounds a bit off, a few misses. If I tip the throttle it spikes super lean, breaks up a bit then raises in revs. Do this a few times and it decides idle is at 1800 rpm.

Drop it in gear and it settles down to normal in-gear rpm, but giving it any gas drops super lean and just can't gain any rpm. It'll only move under it's own power if I don't touch the pedal.

The check engine light never turns off, even after resetting the computer. Key on - it's on and stays on. Bridging the ALDL pins on the top right has no effect. Anyone ever seen this?

Thanks for any ideas. Looks like it may not make it to the Shindig.

Sitting that long...fuel filer, fuel pump be my first place to start...

I know you don't live in an area that prone to salt air like me, but maybe give the cap and rotor a quick check?

The check engine light indicates an ECM or bin issue IMO. I would reload the bin, swap emulators, and swap ECMs (in that order). Likely to be one of them. Maybe, for the heck of it, grab your Dad's (or Adam's) ECM and chip and see if that immediately fixes it. If so, it's one of the 3 above.

I had a multi-program eeprom in it, switched it a few times. Then threw a different eeprom in, no changes. I may be borrowing Adam's ecm.

Not salty here, but I'll take a look. The wires look good still, lots of dielectric should have kept them pretty clean.

I would start here as well. Running lean with no other changes and just sitting. And after looking into the chip and tune, I'd start with filter, and check the fuel pressure, see if it identifies any problems. HTH

The injectors might be gummed up as well from sitting. There are some good cleaners out there. Other suggestions are good also. After all that and after you get your logging figured out it might be you have to pull the injs and have them cleaned. There are sites on the web that show you how to do it yourself. Looks interesting but I've never tried it.

X3. Throw a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail and see if the pressure is fluctuating.

Pull the cap and rotor, and look for a rusty, crusty distributor. Mine was that way this spring, and many others have had an issue this year as well. The crusty distributor causes weird issues. No 2 are the same.

New ecm, CEL is gone and it runs fine. I'm going to re-try the original again, but I guess I'm in the market for a new ecm.
