So my trans was blown up so when I took it out I cut out the catalytic converter because it was rusty and had holes in it now I'm reading a few things and they say leave them in
There's no point to put that POS back on it just has holes and rusty
What should I do?

Re: Run without catalytic converter? HELP!!

I took mine out after it got clogged. ...have a forge wastegate and an aem boost controller....no boost spikes ....but some have boost spikes....it's a hit or miss if you will or you wont from what I've seen.

What's a boost spike?
How is that caused and can be prevented?

a spike is just that, a temporary over boost(more than the stock setting of 14.7psi) that will spike really quickly over the predetermined setting then drop. This can be dangerous as the computer only sees boost and can only regulate up to the 14.7psi so a spike will cause a quick lean condition.

Not to be confused with "overboost" which is a prolonged period of more than what's predetermined (14.7) and stays there without coming back down

Causes for both are the same, faulty wastegate actuator, or faulty solenoid, or little to no back pressure such as a larger diameter exhaust or no catalytic converter.

Our trucks are sensative to larger exhausts and no cat, due to the fact that the stock turbo has its waste gate hole welded with "puck". This makes it harder for the gases to escape quick enough to bring down the boost so you don't "spike", or "overboost".

To avoid these, on a stock truck, make sure your wastegate rod is set correctly and working with no impedence, check your vacuum lines on the turbo to wastegate, check your solenoid. There are also aftermarket solutions to aid solid boost control, such as a manual or electronic boost controller, a better wastegate actuator from Sportmachines, removing the welded puck on the turbo and doing a custom down pipe

How long do boost spikes normally last for?
What do you recommend doing?

Re: Run without catalytic converter? HELP!!

Just get a new cat installed, the OBI cats are fairly inexpensive. A 2.5" cat should be around $150 installed.

Code what?
You should consider it an option if you do not require emissions testing for vehicle inspection. If you don't have one it's going to make it hard to pass with those requirements.
