Replacing Starter, Alt, Ignition ?????

Well were to start, over the last two week I have been getting the progressively louder and louder clicking sound when I step on the gas in my SY.. Now I know it's not mecahnical since when the truck is idle the motor sounds great it just when I step on the gas and the belt picks up RPM's so I was thinking it might be the alternator, or the coil. I just changed the plugs and wires less than 3000 miles ago and I checked those to make sure they were all OK, so just to make sure I wanted to know what would be the best way to go as far as replacing everything??? I am going to go with a powermaster ALT. but what would be a good way to go as far as cap, rotor, coil, starter etc. etc. etc.??? And if you have the part number that would be a big help too.. Even if they are not the problem I really coudnt tell you the last time I changed them out, so I figured why not change them while under the hood... I'm sure someone will say use the search but I want current user feedback not something from a year ago!!! Since this place has the best mechanics in the world (cause lets face it you have to be to keep our trucks running) I just have to ask these dumb questions cause there arent any people out here in the desert that really knows what the hell to do with our trucks anyway!!!!

Do a search or talk to Mike Hood about getting a cap/rotor. Also, know that the starter in under the TRUCK, not under the HOOD..so be prepared to get under it...it's a PITA to remove (unless you remove the prop shaft first), and I went with the mini-starter 'cause it's about half the size/weight (and sounds cool), but others have gone with higher performance model. Again, a search will yield lots of great info. Sorry I don't have the brands/part numbers here at work.

I went with the Accell cap and rotor from sumitracing with the brass conductors. As for the starter i went with ac/delco from dealer. I got it for 140 through a friend so i went with it. At the same time i redid the purple wire on the starter and a new battery cable. starts up with no problems. :tup:

Actually, the starter is on the Pass. side...you do NOT have to remove the propshaft

Actually, if you don't want to bend your converter cover back while prying the very heavy starter out, the only way to get to the hex bolt on the DS of the cover is to remove the propshaft. I did it the hard way. :roll:

Im sorry are we still talking about the removal of the starter. mine was a bitch but i didnt have to remove any thing except for the starter itself.

The size of the starter determines how easy/hard to get out. My "tahoe" starter didn't require removal of anything. Stock syty starter.....had to take the whole shabang apart :roll:

Exactly. Which is why I will never go back to stock size. Mini OWNZ.
