Replacing doors QandA,

Well, I tried searching for some tips on how to do this. And i know i just read a few days ago someones post about pulling the doors off and what not. I was just wondering whats the proper way to remove and install the doors and what other things to do while they are off the truck. (Its getting painted)
It looks like the pins just come out the hinges with some type of clip or retainer, and my hinges are still in ok shape (they don’t sag more than 1/4in, and the driver sides is more than pas.) Will any s-10/s-15 door work? does it need to be one that has power windows? If its not a power door, I need to look into new window motors and locks?

I am going to try and find some locally as well, but does anyone know where you can or know people that already have a driver/pas doors laying around?? New/Used??

Thanks
DG

Re: Replacing doors QandA,

I just did this on mine. Yes, the pins just come out. You need a special tool to get that spring out of their. Well, safely at least.

Most any door will work. I had to drill holes for the cladding mounts.

I did find one difference between newer and older model doors. On the driver's door, the inside door handle plate assy is different. On the older models, the one bolt/screw that hold the plate on is at the very front of the plate like the pass side. On the newer models, my 93 included, that bolt is on the bottom/center of the plate. That's the only difference I noticed.

And you are welcome to my old rusted out doors if you really want em.

I'm thinking you should leave the doors off for Nats. It kind of fits your theme. Maybe you will run 11's.

Re: Replacing doors QandA,

Hey there, I just had my door off the drivers side for a sag, Its :D not hard, but break down and get the spring compression tool, I bought one for about $10 Canadian. You will need a jack, couple rags, and a punch ( brass is prefered) I taped the door seems for I was not getting mine painted yet. Make sure you do both upper and lower pins, There cheap, also gab the bushing inserts. Mine where so wore I had to weld the holes, and grind them until a new bushing fit.

Unclipping all of the wires probably took more time. An extra pair of hands never hurt  Good luck

I think i know what has to be done, I have found some new doors online from $125 each to $262 each. Im going to hit up some junk yards and see if i can fine them way cheaper if not, new doors we come. I found the pin kit for around $15 online and some black sport nonpower mirrors as well for like $35.

Looks like i need this spring compression tool and im set.... tool wise

Re: Replacing doors QandA,

Besides the spring tool ,theres also a bushing driver that will prevent you from chipping the new paint . Around 10 dollars . An easy way to hammer the pins out is with a long 1/4 extension with a small socket on it .

:moved: to body and paint.

and fwiw, i used a pair of channel locks and a big f-ing screwdriver to get the springs back in, but it can probably only be done with the fender off and its definately not safe by any means.
