Removing overspray

Since the weather cleared up recently I finally got the chance to give Ty #254 a good washing since buying it last August. It's got 110k on the clock and the paint is in pretty good shape considering it survived 10+ years of hot Texas sun.

Some of the body panels and cladding had been repainted by one of the two previous owners. While washing it today I noticed some very fine, subtle spots of black over spray (truck is a red/red Ty) on some of the body pieces. I had to get a magnifying class to really see it well.

Any suggestions on a way to remove this? It's certainly not severe enough to require a new paint job. However, just knowing the overspray is there irks me the more I think about it.

Would a lot of work with a clay bar do any good?

How about 2000 grit wet sand + some buffing? Thing is, I've never done that before so I don't want to screw up some of the paint even more.

Meguier's Fine Cut Cleaner,followed by Meguier's Swirl Remover,should do the trick :wink:

If you go the route of 2000 grit use lots of water and follow it up with 3M finishing solution (takes out the swirl marks) you should be fine...just have to take you time

I also like Meguier's Fine Cut Cleaner. Sometimes i will use clay magic if it is only one small spot. Almost any kind of cleaner or buffing compound with any grit in it will take it out. Just dont scratch the paint.

3M has a 3000 grit, will remove very fine scratches and overspray, much easier to buff out, greatly reduces "sand thru potential"
