Question I ran my Typhoon and

heres the results

60' 2.15
330' 6.18
1/8th 9.57 72.52mph
1000 12.48 83.99 mph
1/4 14.9875 86mph

Just as that shows I thought it took awhile for the turbo to spool once it did it did pretty good till the 1000 ft mark then it kinda just falls on its face. Any ideas? I did have a 2.0 60 foot that was just my best 1/4 time slip

Re: Question I ran my Typhoon and

any mods? recent tune-up? does it just stop pulling or does "falling on its face" mean theres a problem with the truck? Are you launching the truck correctly?

Re: Question I ran my Typhoon and

86 mph on the end of the run is way too slow.

60s should be in the 1.7-8

get datamaster and do some data logs. you may be knocking. knock will get you a rebuild if not dealt with.

what state of tune is your ty in? meaning have you performed the basic reliability mods along with a proper tune up?

Re: Question I ran my Typhoon and

I just changed all the spark plugs and wires. Is all stock to my knowledge. I launch it good I think push brake in and basicly hold it and the gas till it starts to move. also it doesnt fall on its face It just drops severly in rpms in 3rd goes down to like 3k rom and tries to fight its way back up. I dont know if there is knock.

Also what are the reliability mods? I have a 255 fuel pump that I need to get put in

Re: Question I ran my Typhoon and

that sounds like KR to me. don't take it to the track until you can get some data logs of running condition. search for the recommend maintenance. we don't want you to think your truck is slow, you just need to help it become faster by taking good care of it.

Re: Question I ran my Typhoon and

what i would do if i were you:

check compression
datamaster
fuel pump - walbro 255
new fuel filter
AFPR - adjustable fuel pressure regulator
spark plugs - ngk ur5 or 6s
wires - taylor or msd
replace cap & rotor with conrad or ac delco
replace ignition module
check coil or replace with msd coil
new o2 sensor
replace vacuum lines with silicone
replace stock intercooler pump with johnson pump
replace stock intercooler lines with 3/4 heater hose route thru fender away from engine
aftermarket boost gauge

Re: Question I ran my Typhoon and

Would the gap of the spark plugs have to do with any of this? I took some advice of a local turbo guy and gapped mine at 25 instead of the 32-35 reccommended

retard

j/k KR = knock retard which pulls timing from motor, which robs power.

are you getting any flashing check engine lights or steady, any audible knock.?

25 would be best suited for alky. re-gap to 32.

Re: Question I ran my Typhoon and

If you are pulling KR ( knock retard) the truck will pull timming out. It will feel like its going flat. The truck will only pull timming out to 0*. if you are still showing a lot of Knock its bad. You realy need a datamaster to see whats going on. I cant imagine doing a wot run without it. reliability mods are like, 3/4 hoses on the ic lines, IC pump hotwired, Good tune up,... Again look here http://www.sportmachines.com/maintenance_tips.php

Sorry if this makes no sense but I was drinking a bit and its late.

Re: Question I ran my Typhoon and

Also The typhoon seems to be in pretty good working order no lights come on and I cant hear a knock.(doesnt mean it isnt happening I know) it just takes a while to spool like I said and in the last gear Im pretty sure its not over drive it drops the rpms at takes awhile to get it moving again. after the turbo spools 1st and 2nd feel real good

If you can hear the knock/pinging then it's worse then you think.. our stock internals are weak as shit so knock is or should be number one concern to owners which is why you'll see everyone suggest that you pickup datamaster software (www.ttspowersystems.com) and data log your truck before going full out again.. if there is pinging/knock detected the computer will pull timing in an attempt to save your motor from spitting a piston or rod out so be easy on the gas until you get it looked over.

oh and post up where your located so maybe you could meet up with a fellow owner who does have datamaster so you know what your dealing with.

I know it?s a bit of a drive to Omaha, but if you want to come up some weekend, I have a DataMaster and wideband we could use to see what?s up with your truck.

My Syclone was even slower than that when I first got it (bone stock, 47k miles). It ends up my fuel pump was toast and causing it to go massively lean under more than 4psi boost. The pre-filter looked like it was coated in caramel. The racetronix kit fixed that completely. Now it rips mid 13?s even with my somewhat crappy 60? times (1.8-1.9). I?m still fighting a bit on knock but other than that it runs like a champ.

I might even be able to help you install that fuel pump (never done a Ty pump).

Shoot me a PM if I can be of help.

Re: Question I ran my Typhoon and

CHECK YOUR IC PUMP!!!!!!!!! I first ran 15.2 @ 82MPH my first time around. That was at the end of the summer 3 years ago. A month later after the track shut down, I got DM. My IAT's were sky high and boost was everywhere. First thing I did was get a Shurflo IC pump and hot wired it. I went from 15.2 to 14.6. Then, I got new exhaust. 3" Catback, no muffler. Went from 14.6 to 14.1. Also, make sure you use straight boots on #1 and #6 plug wires. I screwed it up, so cananyone. Makes for an interesting day, or 4 months hehe.
