question about xylene

Xylene + 93 octane in right ratio to make 105 octane + 175xxx mile 4.3 v6 = ?

Would anyone recommend me not do it? I really wanna run xylene next time I go to Clyde Fant (maybe this weekend)

Thanks

i think the ratio is 1:3 xylene to gas. run 5 gal. of xylene to 10 gal. of gas and your set. when i ran it, the truck acted completely different!! i strongly reccommend it if you are going to be racing. or just go and buy some 108 octane.......

The "recommended" ratio is one part xylene and three parts 92 octane, but that's 5 gallons of xylene and 15 gallons of gas, not 5 and 10.

That mixture should put you right around 100 octane total.

Why do you want to run 100-105 octane in a nonturbo 4.3? Is your car currently taking out timing?

Won't give you better performance unless you have detonation problems, or some sort of modification (boost/compression/additional timing) to take advantage of it.

Unless the ADS chip is causing knock retard... may not help. I suppose it's worth a shot.

15 of 93 and 5 of 117 is 99
10 of 93 and 5 of 117 is 101
So 3:1 is 99 octane and 2:1 is 101
Not much benefit in going the extra bit unless your worried about the extra 30 pounds of gas. I've run both, and the results seem identical. I know it's harder to start the next morning on the 2:1 mix.
That's my 40 tankfills worth...

Higher octane = harder to ignite.

Using a higher octane makes it harder for detonation (when the mixture in the cylinder ignites at the wrong time) to occur. It's more likely to only ignite from the spark plugs, and not from hot spots on the cylinder walls or whatever. Detonation will cause the computer to ease up some and sacrifice performance for safety.

Higher octane "makes power" in that it lets you turn up the boost or run more timing or whatever, and still keep detonation down (to keep the computer from cutting performance back down). You will actually lose power by running higher octane than you need.

I'v heard the same thing...you can acutally have adverse affects running to high of octane than is necessary...There was a great article on fuel, but don't remember where i saw it...I have a question that will seem stupid, but bare with me...When running "more timeing" what exactly is met by this? Such as if you ran a t-3 program rather than a t-2 program on the Ultimate...Am i correct to assume that a t-3 18 setting will create more power, better E.T. than a t-2 18 setting?

I'm learning here, thanks!

Since I do not have the Ultimate (yet)I cannot comment on the T-2 vs T-3 setting (but from what I read in the posts, the T-3 should be a more agressive/powerful setting). Timing (more often than not) is measured/set in degrees before top dead center (btdc) (our trucks happen to have a setting of zero (at base idle)). If a vehicle was to be set at 10 degrees btdc and you adjusted the timing to 14 degrees btdc, you have "added more" timing or advanced the timing. Due to different burn rates of different fuels (read octane), timing needs to be adjusted accordingly. A higher octane fuel will gain performance wise from "more" timing. The higher octane has a slower burn rate (among other things) and the extra "lead" (more degrees before tdc) will provide the time for a more efficient/better combustion. A performance gain is usually the result. There is more to timing than setting the timing at idle and then "forget about it". A distributer and/or computer has the ability to advance timing as engine rpm increases. Its commonly refered to as a timing curve. That's for another discussion. IMO.

Hey audiophile, you're from tha Port city?? Got any pics of your truck?? I'm from Bossier. I ain't at Clyde Fant, uch though. Last time I was there we were in a 97 Silverado and raced a 99-2001 F150 on 22's and a 95 Silverado. We spanked them both

Thanks for all the replies. I'll try 1 tank of the 2:1 xylene and see what that does to me.

MIdnight: I dont liek is S'port, but it seems like im there every weekend. I live in Homer, but homer is too boring, so I just go to s'port and meet people there. I wish I could take my mom's car to the parkway this weekend, but I dont think she'd approve. (82 corvette collectors edition, just tuned up, hauls effin ass) Only got about 22k on the odo too, of cours it had 5000 on the dials when we bought it 2 yearsd ago off EBAY!

My girlfriend, her friend, my cousin, and myself are definitely coming to s'port saturday cuz my cuz is turning 16. Lucky mofo has a 89 chevy with a crate 350. only about 15000 on the new motor. I believe his rearend gears are 4.10 as well.
Ok time to go to work now (subway)

If you want my cell or pager # just post here again and ill give it to you.
