Pt88

Howdy guys,

Long time no post...

I'm in the process of putting together a 383 1st gen SBC for the Sy. Almost everything is here, but I have an idea I'd like to discuss with you. The turbo I choose for the project is a PT88. I though I should try to stretch out the limit of my stock block (all the good stuff inside, 422 cam) V6 and fabricate this turbo up. What do you think?

I've the ATR headers, which is IMHO a serious restriction for this kind of turbo. I'm building my own down pipe, 4" to 3.5" to a cutout. What do you think about the usable RPM range? According to my experience , with the 422 there is no point to push the engine above 5300, it's starting to loose power from that point.

BTW, the Sy runs 11.1@122 with a T72.

On the picture you can see my girl and boy with the PT88.

Later,

Re: Pt88

Not much point in busting up a good motor, when the built one is ready...plus there is extra fab work to do, and it will be for nothing anyways, because that turbo will bust that cast crank up if You try to crank it up really good., imo

Re: Pt88

nah, with a bit of tuning and watching the logs i think you can give it a try.
i would put a filter between the oil feed line and the turbo though.

Good luck with your progress!

You have a good eye. It's. I've overgrown it, but kept it for an off topic 4age Toyota project...

That's a good idea. I really don't want to hurt the turbo. On the other hand I'm concerned that I can even make decent boost out of this turbo in the mentioned RPM range... If not, there is nothing to fear about and no point to do this... If the answer i yes... That requires a suspicious programing...

Just realized. :) Howdy Tamas! :-D The downpipe I plan to fabricate for this should work on the V8 as well... So it's kinda a step forward in this direction as well...

Re: Pt88

We are doing a build with a midframe 88 right now. It should be on the dyno in 3-4 weeks.

This is a serious turbo and will make over 1000hp to the wheels when pushed.

Because of the large exhaust housing and wheel spoolup might be a issue on a stock size short block. Look to see positive boost in the 4500 range. You could also use nos to spool it.

The 4.3 will last a bit if you keep the boost down.
