Project Typhoon

Been awhile since I've been at this site, but I wanted to get everyone updated on the truck. Had a new trans installed last fall. Searched and found the cladding that I needed that was either missing or broken. Took it to the body shop where it's been ever since. Over the winter I viewed it as "free storage" type of thing, but the owner cut me a great deal and it was one of those "take your time, I'm in no hurry" jobs. Well......nearly three seasons later (winter, spring, summer) the truck is close to being completed. It will have seven coats of black and eleven coats of clear....I can't wait to see it. It has been a long journey, from a $500 truck with a blown trans and a tree laying on the roof from a.....what do they call that....straightline winds? I call it a dam tornado. Anyways, I just wanted to pop in and let everyone know that I should have pics of the truck up on here by the end of this month. Cheers, and have a safe and happy Fourth !

P.S. This is literally a truck that was resurrected from dead.

. It will have seven coats of black and eleven coats of clear.....

why would you put that much material on a truck? if it really has 11 coats of clear I give it 2 years before it looks like a spiderweb from the material cracking, anything more than 5 coats is dumb, and I only say 5 because 2 will get removes in the cut and buff

Re: Project Typhoon

The guy painting it is a professional. If it spiderwebs a few years down the road, it's on him, he'll have to fix it. I'm not questioning him at all, I've seen alot of his work. Have a nice day.

A few years warranty work on paint? How's he stay in business?

Re: Project Typhoon

just got to reading this.sounds like a bad idea. What u are talking about is how lacquer clear was shot before I was born. 7 coats of base is a pure waste after 2 coats everything should be covered if u use a good sealer so the other 5 coats are not going to do a damn thing. 11 coats of clear not all at once I hope
3 is plenty u cane sand and buff 2 coats no problem. With this much material the doors will hit the fenders.
If u want a deep look to the truck spray it in 1-step ( solid color) and 2 coats of clear over it will be deep as hell and u can sand sand it flat as u want. Remeber sand and buffing is to fix problems i.e. dirt, orange peel ect. clearcoat paint looks best if it is never sanded as far as luster goes
