power steering pump question

Truckless. For now.
I just recently replaced my power steering pump (a few months ago), due to it leaking like mad out of the shaft seal.

Started the truck to go to the store today, and there's an aweful knocking sound. after taking my bros truck, i found time this afternoon to check things out.

turns out, the power steering pump pulley is moving in and out on the shaft. there's maybe 1/4" of play in and out. is it possible to just reseat the pulley? or am I looking at a bogus power steering pump? i've driven less than 200 miles on the new one, well, i should say re-man from Autozone, but new to me.

tia.

maybe a stupid question, but you did use the proper tool to remove the pulley from the old pump and istall it on the new one right? \

might want to mic the shaft of the new pump and make sure it hasn't been ground down to far to clean it up.

yah, i borrowed autozone's puller/installer tool. the one i had at work was too big, so it was the autozone one for me. looks like I'm pulling things apart this weekend to check it all out.

at least it'll be easier to remove this time without that dumb bolt behind the reservior.

there really isnt any way for the pulley to move on the shaft(it's press fit). that shaft has to be moving inside the pump. I'd say your looking for a new PS pump again.
