Power steering pressure hose

Has anyone had to replace this piece of crap. I would like to know the absolute best way to get to the bottom fitting. I can't get it to seat properly so I can wrench it in. There isn't anything in the archives and I didn't find anything in a search through this forum. I just need to know the procedure so I can knock it out and get my truck back on the road.

Re: Power steering pressure hose

have you tried taking out the lower intercooler and trying to get to it from the bottom?

Re: Power steering pressure hose

I haven't. I can see the fitting looking through the front driver-side wheel well. I just can't get more than one finger on it to turn it. I can wrench it, but it won't seat. I can also see it from under the truck, but it's still not enough room to get more than a finger on it. I contemplated taking the power steering pulley off and going in that way, but I could see the fitting the way I was going, so I haven't done that yet either. I'll give that a try. Thanks.

Not to resurrect an old thread, but I'm about to change one of these... Can it be done w/ the P/S pump on the truck? Doesn't look like it w/ the fitting on the underside/back of the pump & all.

Any tips tricks would be greatly appreciated!

Possibly but you'd save yourself ALOT more time and grief by taking the pump off.

Re: Power steering pressure hose

i have done it with the pump still on the truck and with the rad.in.
taking the pump out can be a mayor PITA, and i would try it without taking out the pump first, if you replace it anyway, you can alway cut the tube first, so you can slide a ring wrench on it

Re: Power steering pressure hose

I had to remove the 1" bolt on the back of the pump in order to remove the line. WAPITA

Stab it and steer it
Re: Power steering pressure hose

Buy the flippin' tool to R&R the pulley at Harbor Freight (roughly $20), do it right and be done with it. Have a beer with all the time you'll save.
