Okay, here's the deal. I've heard both sides, but I want to see how well these trucks hold up.

Does your SyTy run day to day with out fail(or at least make it from point A to point B most of the time) or does it just run from repair job to repair job.

I've heard people use them as DD's without fail and I've heard that they are horribly unreliable... Who is right(my vote is on horribly unreliable even though I know of at least one used as a DD since it was bought in 94)

I have not had it long enough for it to really break anything serious yet. So far its been great as a daily driver to and from work 38 miles round trip.

Mine's been a DD for 5 years,but this is on a rebuilt engine.Aside from normal wear and tear,mine has done great.I've only blown up 3 trannies in this period.

It really depends on the Truck use. Raced truck are going to have break downs.

My Syclone repairs have been ripped propshaft boot & brake pads in 7K miles. The rest of the work I have done is all mods, preventative maintenance (ie motor mount, new hoses, gaskets, fluids) and trying to tune it to be faster.

I had a Typhoon that I bought with 159K miles and it didn't have that many previous repairs. (suspension, brakes, starter, tranny at 140K miles, fuel tank) It did have the original motor and turbo. The original owner bought it drove it. When I bought the truck, I did have to rebuild the suspension, to brakes, exhuast, starter, full tune up, and few electrical repairs to get it road worthy. I drove it 7K miles as my daily driver for a year with only issues being cheapy starter (replace 2 twice) and I broke a motor mount. The next owner had a mechanic screw up the oil lines replacing the motor mount and had a few of issues since ( I think the turbo ingested a piece of plastic from the intake tube).

Those really aren't long term sucess stories, I think my Sy would hold up with daily driving. I think could and have played with the idea of use 80-100K mile SyTy for a daily driver but I would really make sure it has a good history before purchasing it.

I know another owner who has tons of problems with a mostly stock Ty. I know of quite a few owners who blew their motor (or found out the motor need to be rebuilt) shortly after buying a SyTy.

well i know its kind of unfiar but my ty blew the motor right after buying it ( I have put 110 miles on it) and honestly now i look at it like this.....

they can be good DD once you get done fixing all of the screw ups from other people (esp. if its a clone like mine god knows what that thing has been trew)

so all in all so far i really cant say weather or not they are good DD's lol but i can tell you this i will try and let you know lol :lol:

Even if my Sy's in bad condition it still gets me from A to B with out much hassle. But I think my tranny is going towards the light, I don't think it likes my lead foot and Alki combination.

Bought my Ty in November with the intention of it being a weekend warrior. While driving it back to San Diego non-stop from Austin (1300 miles in 18 hours) I discover how much fun it is to drive. How the drivers seat fits me like a glove. How the whole truck just seems to resonate when it finds 80 mph. A few days after getting it home I discover I've got some blow by, but I can't stop driving it! (Not to worry, I'm making plans for a motor rebuild during the summer). I also own a 2wd 92 S-10 Blazer, haven't driven it since I bought the Ty, because it rides like a truck!

What can I say? I love my new Ty and I can't stop driving it!

Bought my 92 ty about 2 1/2 years ago for my daily. History on it was a little shady but other than my trans going two after i bought it, i have no problems. Like most people have said just reliability mods and normal wear and tear.

Bought my SY in July of 04 after wrecking my Dakota R/T (It’s almost rebuilt) and it’s been my DD ever since. I have had to replace 2 freeze plugs, motor mounts, all the breaks including rotors & drums and tune ups. I was driving my 91 S10 but when I got the SY the poor S10 just sits. I do go and start it every other weekend until it ran out of gas last Saturday. Damn got to dig out the gas can. :fist:

other than 4 transmissions, mine hasnt been THAT bad :lol:

I mean I have driven it to Chicago and back, to Kansas City and back twice, ect ect.

Ive put 9K miles on my DD Typhoon in a little over a year and a half. Havent had much trouble with it at all, especially since Ive learned how to treat/work on these "toys". I'm sitting at 81k and have ZERO issues. Then again I'm anal about almost everything on the truck.....gotsta keep it tip top!

Daily driver from 93-03.70k miles, 2 heater cores,2starters.First raced in 03 and after a dozen passes lost the trans.Never got towed,always made it home,even after the trans.Race a ten year old vehicle,you get what you deserve.Rebuild should be complete this summer(I hope).

I bought mine in Detroit last August, drove it home 1500 miles and have been using as a DD every since. If it's a fairly nice day (not snowing) I drive it. Now have 110,000 on it.

Had the Syclone since '92 and it's had 4 trannys a distributor and an ecm. It's driven hard and has over 400 1/4 mile passes on it. 25K miles. Had my Ty 3 years, it has 146K on it and the only thing ever replaced is the transfer case. It did eat the serpentine belt once. But I rarely boost launch it and I would take either truck anywhere. The Ty is my daily driver, the Sy is my toy for racing and shows.

Nearly 100 drag strip passes on the stock motor up to 25 psi and a 40 shot and never have broken a thing.......including the trans!

I bought my '92Ty from my brother last year and I'll admit they are "fussy" trucks. But for the most part my truck has been a very reliable summertime daily driver.

My Ty has a little over 120k miles with all your basic mods (3" catless exhaust, chip, afpr, 160 tstat, walbro, egr delete, k & n) and I've replaced the whole ignition, I had the original turbo go out on me last summer (which isn't bad for a modified suv with 120k), and other than that I'm in the process of replacing a cracked exhaust manifold. But really you got to expect this kind of stuff from these trucks. They're freaks and require a lot of attention (almost like my gf!) but it all pays off. After driving 100+ miles to the nearest 1/4 mile race track I managed to pull of some 13.6's on pump gas, with a cracked exhaust manifold, and later found out my timing was retarded about 3 degrees. And on top of that I still managed to make it home after pounding on my truck all day long. So overall I'm happy with my truck and I've had to do very little compared to others.
