I got pulled over in Holmdel NJ tonight, As soon as I pulled over I put my window down & put my hands on the steering wheel, My friend in NYPD told me he appreciate's seeing this up front. He said I pulled you over for a headlight out & no turn signal change. I have aftermarket HID's which are complete garbaaggggge! I handed him my License, Registration & Insurance. Turns out Registration was expired in January. I was completely respectable with him. He told me to hang on & he will be back. When he returns he says this is what I did..............................I can get you for tints (Windshield too!) headlight out, no signal change, no inspection: Reason being (Headers/Non Street) NEVER PASS in NJ, & license plate covers, A total of over $500 in tickets on St Patty's day! When he came back to the truck after running my license he asked me if this was a collector now? He said he grew up loving these things! ended up with a expired Registration ticket $54 only. :D

PS : The only reason for any ticket the captain pulled up & said write something!!!

Re: Police Can Be OK??

The wife and I got pulled over a few days ago in the Safari of all things. We had just left the BK drive thru and I forgot to turn my headlights on, parks were on.

So when I pull over and stop, turn the engine off, I automatically take my seatbelt off! Shit, I try to put it back on just as he turns the spot light on. Busted!

So he asks for my license, registration and insurance. He tells me he pulled me over for no headlights and not wearing a seatbelt! I politely argue the seatbelt and he believes me. Then I tell him the registration is expired, I knew that since the new one with the plate sticker is back home, and the insurance card is expired as well. Great, time to go to court.

He comes back, and he tells me he is letting me go with not one not two but four warnings. No headlights, no proof of insurance, expired registration and expired tags. That was a cool state trooper! Always be polite and hope for the best!

4 warnings seems very generous

I got pulled over on the Freeway on my wy to work by a state patrol.. The cop comes up to my window says, I got you going 76mph in the middle lane.. gave him my information.. comes back to the window and goes, I gave you a warning cuase I normaly only pull people and give tickets at 78mph or more, so I just wanted to let you know your on the boarder line...

lucky all I go was a piece of paper for going 13 over..

From my experience if you are courteous to them, they are usually pretty cool in return. Most of police officers are just level headed people trying to make a living like everyone else. They only have the few hot heads that are like no matter where you go and these are the minority. Just a bad day if you catch one of them.

^^ x2. The whole question of "can they be okay?" is odd to me. Only people in certain parts of inner cities have a true disdain for the police (for all the wrong reasons). My experience has been overwhelmingly positive and I can't imagine a civil society without them.

Even when I was young, I got out of a lot of tickets by being courteous. Cops are people too. A lot of times they're even car guys (or girls). Are there bad cops...yup. But I work with a couple assholes too.

Re: Police Can Be OK??

Giving people warnings on multiple things, and only banging them for one or two is pretty much taught in the academy. It's a way to make people not completely hate cops. If you are an ass to a cop, prepare for a shit ton of tickets. I don't give muscle cars, or most GM cars tickets :)

Re: Police Can Be OK??

Funny this thread came up, few weeks ago I got pulled over in my white ty coming home from work. Saw him behind me while I was on the phone with my dad. Went from stop sign to stop sign him behind me, turn left at next sign and here he comes.

Claims I did 45 in 25 (i am sure i did over 25 but it was only 1 block and I knew he was behind me, wasn't like I was trying to speed but I have no idea how fast I actually did go)
Insurance card, well forgot to put current one in my pocket
Seat belt, nope didn't have that on either.

As stated I had window down and both hands on steering wheel when he walked up, he asked if I knew why he pulled me over and I just said no.
Didn't argue, didn't complain, nothing just sat there.
He came back handed me my license and said make sure I buckle up and have a good day.

Of course he probably ran my record and saw I have zero tickets or record at all.
I wonder if my secret security clearance shows up when they pull my name up.

It probably helps also that I do not drink & drive, Which is definetly what they were after last night. I saw a lot of swerving cars on the belt pkwy coming back from Long Island!

This was basically just a title, Don't look too much into it. I was actually just really surprised myself I only got 1 ticket.

Re: Police Can Be OK??

I think there are several good ones out there, but there are also several assholes who think that because they are a police officer, they have an open opportunity to do whatever they want.

I have been pulled over and gotten warnings. I have also gotten pulled over and gotten cited.

Also, I am a believer that it also depends on what city/part of the city/state/county you are in.

Monday on my way into work from the main dealership where we have our meetings, en route to our dealership (in the hood) I was pulled over. Cop came up and claimed he needed to run the temp tag vs the car because "a lot of people steal temp tags". He came back up after about 2 minutes and handed me my license back and then said "Is there anything in the car you're not supposed to have or I should know about?". My response was "nope". Then he says "well, do you mind if I take a look?". WTF? Yes. I do mind. My words were "is there some reason why you would think that I do? Do you have any probable cause or a warrant? Because I can call my attorney right now." I already had my cellphone out and had my attorneys number pulled up to dial. He responded "have a nice day" and walked away back to his car.

Not trying to be funny, but if I weren't white, I could have seen that having a different result.

As a general rule of thumb, I don't trust cops. I have seen way too many instances where they do shady things. In fact, I am currently in the middle of something like this with one of my salesmen at work, and due to an "ongoing investigation" can't really say much right now, but once it happens and is made public, you're going to think I am making all of this shit up or it's a movie script until you see the depositions and reports.

I always act calm, cooled and polite in my dealings with law enforcement. However, I also make sure to cover my ass and at times ride that fine line between coming across as a dickhead and knowing my rights.

Really?
How in the hell have you accomplished that?
Sexual favors?

BTW, be careful whenever you take mine out once it's back up and running. The tags expire either end of this month or end of next. May have to mail the stickers up to you so you don't get your first ticket.

Expired tags is not a moving violation, ask me how I know that fact.

Re: Police Can Be OK??

Couple weeks ago I took th Ty to the welding supply shop to have my CO2 Argon tank refilled. Right after leaving the shop headed home I crossed paths with California HP. I made eye contact and could see he was hunting for a reason to pull someone over. He does a 180 and gets behind me. I set the cruise at 54 in the 55 zone. He starts floating up and dropping back for a few miles. Gets tired of me, and passes me. About a mile later he does the same thing to someone else, and I pulled them over.

I think he singled me out because of no front tag. Well my truck is registered in Mississippi and I live in Cali. No front tag required in Ms.

Re: Police Can Be OK??

Just like others have said on here, it's how you present yourself to the cop when you're pulled over. This was awhile back, but when I was getting ready to transfer out of Colorado to a new duty station in Texas, I was handling some business and had to run to Colorado Springs. Took 24 east and took the South Union exit and turned left to go under 24. I romped on the gas and as I came out from under the underpass, I was about 20 over the limit. Look up the hill and Colorado Springs' finest was sitting there on his motorcycle with a radar gun! He immediately put the radar gun into the saddlebag and I just hit the signal light, pulled over and parked just in front of him since I knew he had me dead to rights. He came up, gave the spiel and asked why I was speeding. Didn't argue with him or give him attitude, just said, "No excuse, I knew you had me on the radar gun..." He stepped back to his bike, ran my stuff, then came back up and said, "I'm letting you go with a warning...just keep your foot out of the engine, please."

Re: Police Can Be OK??

I was doing some datalogging and tuning several weeks ago on a highway that passes through Ft. Bliss that's pretty isolated at night. I was pulling over every few minutes to do adjustments until a cop came in behind me and turned the lights on.

So I put it in park, put my hands on the steering wheel, and when he walked up, he asked what I was doing, I gave him a quick rundown and showed him my code59 dashboard and was blown away with his answer. "Wow, I though that kind of stuff was only in movies, I had to google what a typhoon was on my phone" He scanned the backseat with his flashlight and saw the baby seat base and said " You have a family?" I answered yes, baby girl a few months old. He gave me back my license and insurance and said, "have fun and be careful" I was relieved and not expecting it at all. I have limo tint all around, no front license plate, HIDs and expired registration.

I think there is a large correlation with attitude and what kind of car you drive. Back when I used to have my WS6 on slicks/skinnies I would get constantly harrassed, paced and pulled over. I got a few tint tickets, no front license plate tickets and a few other bullshit tickets that were just a waste of time.
