Performance mods?

Hey guys, I've searched just about everywhere, and can't seem to find anything on the topic of which mods to get first, and where to get them?

I have a stock Ty, and am curious as to which mods will render the most power.
1. 3" dp, and where to get?
2. Meth kit, and which one is rec. and where to get?
3. 3bar chip and map sensor, and where to get?
4. and any other mods that I'd need to support the three above.

I'm frustrated because I keep seeing post's where guys will say,.."Search"..Well, Damnit!, I've searched, and the one page that supposedly says it has a document showing all this does load up. Please help.

Re: Performance mods?

1.Ebay,or here on the board.AFAIK PTE still makes a DP,but they are currently back ordered.Might see if one of the various vendors has one for you.

2.Razor's alky kit.Check the vendors.

3.Chip from Phil Long (Turbo 6) or Campbell Automotive. You can get the 3 bar MAP from the dealer or a vendor.

4.Well,if you are getting a 3" DP,you might as well get a real turbo, and some 50# injectors. You'll need a Walbro fuel pump, adjustable FPR,and at least a real boost gauge and fuel pressure gauge. Since you will be doing all that, you'll need to get your transmission built, get a good TC,and a Gilbert propshaft.

The main thing you really need is Datamaster,so you can see exactly what everything is doing.Might as well get a WB02 as well,so you can dial that alky in.

Re: Performance mods?

fuel pump
adj. regulator
thermostat
air intake
3" mandrel bent exhaust
intercooler mods (hotwire, larger pump, aux cooler, etc)

these are your maintenence mods.

Now if you want to "chip" your truck and start increasing performance i strongly suggest some diagnostic software.. Be it, datamaster, diacom, anything. At this point seen as how you want to increase performance you must do it with either more boost, leaner air fuel or more timing. All of which will increase the likelyhood of detonation. This is where alky injection can be your source of added octane, however you must have a means of monitoring whats going on.. So if this all sounds good read on....

Next would be:
3 bar map sensor and chip (there are a couple now)
turbo upgrade (hybrid turbo with stock downpipe)
A/A intercooler

Now if you want to go bigger on the turbo plan on a complete transmission rebuild and high stall torque converter.

At this point you can run the 3" downpipe kits with larger turbos.

Re: Performance mods?

What about Snow Performance Meth kit Stage II ?

Also, should I get the meth kit first, or should I get a performance chip like the Ultimate or Chip Works first, and if so, which one and why?

If I go with the meth kit first, what kind of power increase should I expect on a stock setup? Same goes for the chips. THanks

Snow performances has worked out well with a few mustang and lightning friends of mine.. I would have to say though having a razor kit and looking over the snow kits.. the razor has alot more features but if your looking at price snow is a lot cheaper it's all what you want and what you want to invest.. I would however pickup a kit first before a chip.. then get with Nolan or one of the other members/vendors that do custom chips after alky install.

Re: Performance mods?

the meth is usually to cool the intake charge when the boost levels are increased. That being said, you will need an aftermarket chip to increase the boost or you will get a check engine light with an overboost code. With 14psi, if you are getting excessive knock retard i would look into the foundation (fuel, timing, ignition, intercooler) before trying to cover it up with alky injection.

There are a bunch of alky kits out on the market. Alky Control seems to be the most popular amongst the syty and buick crowd, as it has been out for awhile.. I was running a GP on the just released turbonetics alky kits a few weeks back.. i probably have one left which would be $100 off retail price.

As for the chip, the ultimate chip has worked well for a broad range of trucks.. if you want something spefic to your truck contact Nolan for a "custom" chip.. Never heard of "chip works"
