I went to his web page and there was an email address for him. I doubt he checks all of it so I made sure to put syclone and typhoon in the title. We will see if he responds or not. Maybe it was andrew that knew Shaun. I know someone knew him I just cant remember who...

The kid?

Shauns daughter is a hottie, & almost my age. Speaking of age Shaun is exactly 2 times my age. Not much of a kid.

I told him personally about Nats, he looked at me, looked at his truck, shook his head , & walked away.

`Rocket ship' dreams lie in the dust at Pikes Peak
BY DAVID RAMSEY
The Gazette

(KRT) - Shaun Palmer arrived at the top of Pikes Peak in a rage. He had raced up the mountain in a modified Chevrolet pickup, and he wanted to finish in 11 minutes.

He didn't. He came to a screeching top at the summit in 12 minutes, 12 seconds and then released his anger.

He's a big name in the extreme sports movement, with nine X Games gold medals, his own snowboarding video game and impressive accomplishments in skiing, motocross, wakeboarding and cycling.

But not auto racing. In Saturday's Falken Tire Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, Palmer found himself in the position of being an also-ran.

He didn't like it. Palmer, not the most humble individual, calls himself the "the world's greatest athlete" and complains it's too easy for him to claim victory.

Mediocrity confused him. Palmer, who is 34, spent several minutes acting as if he's 14.

When he reached the summit, he first held his face in his hands for several seconds. His shoulders were shaking as he yelled to himself.

His words could not be heard over the roaring engine. That's probably a good thing.

Next, he punched his rearview mirror with his right hand.

Then, he took a slow walk to the edge of the mountain, where he stared east into the sunny distance.

The panoramic view of the Colorado Springs area seemed to calm him. His shoulders quit shaking, and he stopped talking to himself. He returned to his red truck, gazed at it for a long moment.

He couldn't stand the sight. He unleashed a savage kick to the truck's side.

A few minutes later, his rage let loose into the blue skies above him, he explained why he chose to attack his car.

"They always say don't spend your own money on racing, but I did anyway," Palmer said.

How much did he spend?

He grimaced.

"About $200,000."

Don't worry about him. Palmer is head of the thriving Shaun Palmer Limited. He collects vintage Cadillacs. He has plenty of cash to throw at his dreams.

One of those dreams led him to the Hill Climb last year. He wanted to wow potential sponsors them with his racing ability. He didn't finish the race.

This year, he continued the quest, but his truck's engine began to sputter about halfway through the 12.4-mile course.

The man who adores pushing the limits was left, in his words, "driving at normal rental-car speed," just like some tourist from Des Moines.

He wanted so much more. He had this vision. He wanted to become the first racer to climb the hill in less than 10 minutes.

He wanted to find a sponsor to help him build what he calls "a rocket ship" that would be sleek, dazzling and unspeakably fast.

"I was hoping someone would believe in me," he said softly as he stared at the ground.

His future at the Peak appears hazy. Palmer said he doubts he will return to the mountain.

That's too bad for the Hill Climb. Palmer represents what the Hill Climb needs. He and his wild plans could give the event a modernizing jolt, pushing it into the minds of a new generation. Maybe the Hill Climb could even obtain a decent TV contract.

Palmer is a fascinating soul. He once sang in a punk band known as Fungus. He leads a movement toward acceptance for exotic sports. He declines to rest, always seeking fresh challenges.

This challenge proved too much. Palmer trudged past the red truck with the dent in the side and the mangled rearview mirror.

He had spent a big chunk of cash chasing his vision of a magical rocket ship.

A rocket ship doomed to remain forever on the ground.

No respect no respect /Dangerfield

Respectable still from what I know.

As validated by his lack of respect given to Ron

Dunno if he should be arrested for SyTy abuse or consoled as we have all been there with these trucks.

"About $200,000."

I'd like to see a price laydown.

All in all a decently written article.

I was trying to find that article. The June 30 sports section sat on my kitchen table for like 3 days, but then was gone. I was told by Brian, that a lot of the money was in the custom body work. 200k worth, I think not, but oh well. What is 200k to Palmer.

Oh & on the Hill Climb book, it said: GMC S10 Syclone. The radio announcers called it a red chevy pickup. I sooooooooooo wanted to hit the dumb bastards. But then again, the only place on the whol truck it said Syclone, was on the glove box. The PAS stickers were even gone.

So is 11 minutes fast or what, how long is it ad what is the record?

Lets get that lingenfelter twin turbo vette or the sonoma and try the pikes peek with one of those.

In lastmonths hot rod or car craft, one of those did you see the 1300hp c-4 corvette, 1000hp on pump gas and 1300 on race gas and he drives it alot, like 20,000 miles a year, that is simply awesome, twin turbo small block i believe.
It ran something like 10.20 at 162mph, so you know it was spinning half way down, but the tech guy said dont come back without a parachute :D :D , need one of those at the 150mph mark.
That car should be capable of mid to high 8s with traction.

If that car would stay together and not overheat , i think it could do well at pikes peek, what do think???

I say invite the temper tantrum throwing crybaby to the Nats and let me whip his ass with my Typhoon one good time... ;)

Seriously though.. what is all the hype? I would rather see Tim Allen or Clint Eastwood than some guy who gets so mad that he kicks the side of his truck... how bad would he feel once he got out run by the Weavers... in their pimp ass ride... or what about when he gets to the end of the track and Tony and Nolan go... tough break, hey...

I just don't see the hype.

11 mins is very fast, & damn you are bad at typing. I thought I was, but damn, proof-read.

The record is held by Rod Millin at 10:04:96 in a 91 Toyota Celica Super Turbo (AWD, 6 speed, 1100hp). The 10 min barrer has not yet been broken.

Lets get that lingenfelter twin turbo vette or the sonoma and try the pikes peek with one of those.

Yeah, that would be real fricken pratical, 1000hp, none of which gets to the dirt. Real smart.

Pikes peek? is this some new form of peek-a-boo.

Its Peak, dumbass. Like a mountain. When Zebulon Pike discovered he chose to call it Pikes Peak, as opposed to Pikes Mountain. He already had a Peak named after him, but it was later named Longs Peak.

The speed he went through Glen Cove, which is about half way, & the time he was running trough there was comprable to a 10 min 30 second run. So he was fast, fast enough to be "King of the Mountain", but he truck overheated 2 miles from the top. I would be pretty pissed too. I am not trying to defend him, but he was the fastest thing that I saw go by since back in the time of Rod Millin's Celicas, & Tacoma. & the japanese guy in the Grand Vitira (Escudo).

I just don't see the hype.

The hype is, a Syclone is giving a damn good shot at a world wide known rally race. Its not called the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb for nothing. Its the most well know rally event in the U.S. & a Syclone was there, thats the hype. I love going to he Peak for the Race to the clouds, but this year was extra special, I mean come on, its a Sy.

Wow Ron you are quick to jump on someones shit about spelling yet you write " but he truck overheated 2 miles from the top." Dont you mean his truck, or did you mean he and this is some new english I was unaware of. I am not an english major and assume your not one either since your still in HS. Give the guy a fucking break. I am sure someone here smart like Sigo could rip your shit apart but hes not so lay the fuck off... Oh and we are talking about practicality of putting a 1000hp to the dirt or whatever yet you are the one who drops a v8 into a very limited production car... Why not just put a V8 in an S10 and throw on some cladding? Im sure other SOGT owners are happy though, just makes their truck worth more.
