Paging Hartman-Trans removal

This could be fun
taking out my trans monday, i read Blake's account of removing it, but just wanted to know if i should watch for any suprises. I am getting a 700R, from an hill climb racer, who is upgrading to 5 speed. It is supposed to be a race built trans, so we will see. either way, it costs the same as a re-build, so even if its the same, i'll have a trans.
I lost your phone number, or i would have called. could'nt find Will's number either.

Yours is a piece of cake.
Get someone to help, so you don't kill yourself or drop the tranny off of the jack. :-?
Make sure ALL cables and hoses are disconnected.
And make sure the truck is high enough that you can slide the tranny out while on the jack. Of course you'll need a jack that will reach up high enough to the tranny, also.

If it's never been pulled get some PB so you don't break bolts. Also a bunch of extensions. Do you have the specs on this hill climbing tranny? Are you sure it will hold up to being street driven? You might suffer from drivability issues.

i was told he built it to race specs., but he built it so he would'nt have to it ever agin, in other words, he wanted a relible race ready trans, but now he needs a different one

Trans Removal

I have a Harbor Freight Trans Jack, and have never been able to get the car high enuf to pull the Trans out on the jack. I always have to wrestle it off the jack and onto some carboard so I can then slide it out.

One of these days if I have the $$ and can settle in a location, I'm going to get one of those $3K Autolifter lifts.
