im glad i lucked out with a good one then... paid 150 for the yellow deep cycle...never had a problem with it... i didnt realise so many people were having problems with optima batteries...:dunno:

The ONLY reason I would ever buy another Optima battery is because I have to use a gel type sealed battery in my racecars. The Optima is the less expensive of the other gel battery solutions. I carry a spare in the race trailer just in case because they do just go bad! I have to make sure that when I put the racecars away that the power is cut off from the battery. Once a week I plug in a battery maintainer just to be safe because I've had them crap out and not start during a race before...

I believe this topic's been talked about before. I went through a few of them a few years ago as well. After 2 weeks of the truck sitting the red top wouldn't start it at all.

So what are you guys switching to?

The screwed up thing is I found a receipt for one I bought a year ago, and I paid $120 ... now the SAME battery is $150 and the quality is down, wtf?! ---

so what is a good option, if money is not a problem. I personally think that not having to worry about it is worth spending 200+. i cant stand having a failed battery, and most of my trucks are rarely driven.

Why is the yellow top not for starting?
I've had a yellow top in my SS for 3 years now and it definitely cranks slower than my oem delco battery.
Cold mornings it really drags but seems to get the job done.

Once it dies I am done with optima.
The Duralast is way cheaper with a better warranty, just not as pretty.

I agree on the one time drain and they are dead. I just had a red top crap out and not hold a charge longer than 4 days. And this was only after the body shop ran it down to nothing. It was just under three years old so Autozone gave me a brand new one.

It was funny when I went into Autozone and told the lady my battery was crap, and she replied, "we have to charge and test it." I said, "o.k. ill be back in a hour or two", and she said "no you wont, it takes 12 hours to charge." I was like WTF.

She told me that if it takes a charge then they consider it good.I told her that just because it takes a charge doesn't mean the battery is good, its how it holds its charge is what matters.

Anyways, I went to pick it up the next day and she said the battery is "Good". I looked over it and noticed that there was gel leaking from one of the vents. So she just gave me a brand new one.

I will not buy another one and it had a "Hencho en Mexico":shoot: sticker on it, which made it even more apparent that I would not buy another one.

So whats the new great battery out there? Braille, Odyssey, or what?

I have a red top in my ty (a little more than 2 years old)...and it sits in the garage 90% of the time. Gets driven a dozen or so times when the weather is good. The rest of the time it's on a trickle charger that I have cycled (1 week on - 3 weeks off). I left it once without the charger last winter for a couple months. The alarm/radio drew the battery flat. Charged it back up over a couple weeks...it's been fine ever since.
