Re: Operation Transformation is about to begin

Spent some time into the evening getting the Aspen ready to receive the Bowtie transplant. I am amazed how nice this Ty is on the underside. The frame does not have a speck of rust or discoloration on it. The coil-over suspension glistens and one could eat off the X-fer case. Super excited about the progress so far. Slow but moving in the right direction :).

I love Aspens.

You still parting out the other one?

I have a couple members interested in buying it as a roller so I doubt it, at this point. It was built for road racing and has performed in that venue very well. My friend Chris (who used to own it) may enable its legacy to continue :dunno:

Re: Operation Transformation is about to begin

UPDATE: Finally removed the built bowtie engine today. Got slowed down because I had to install new front non-ABS hubs on the Aspen, half-shafts, C-5 brake adaptors, C-5 calipers, NEW ceramic pads and all new AN-8 bolts on the coilover kit. Also grinded the "corvette" off the calipers and painted them yellow with a special German caliper paint kit, installed braided lines, installed a brand new hydroboost to make the calipers squeeze down hard with ease and touched up the scratch marks on the firewall from a previous owner who removed the original motor.

After I change the spark plugs, the engine and tranny will get delicately placed in the Aspen. Then I transfer the high volume fuel system over and the complicated wiring system which makes this motor scream. Looking forward to turning the key and hearing it hummmmm.

What is the hydra boost from and what master cylinder is that? C5?

It may sound stupid, but I can't get over how clean the front axle and diff. housing looks in that pic. Was it powder coated previously?

Hey T-bone, someone told me you were getting ready to work on the truck and sent me the link for this thread, I just thought I'd mention something for safety sake..

Take a look at the ball joint orientation on the tubular A-arms, when I installed them I had a no brainer and put them on the wrong side of the arm, the only thing holding them in place is the bolts, instead of riding on the flange of the arms and using the bolts to hold it from sliding around...

I meant to swap it around but as you can imagine it wasn't high on my list when I lost interest in the truck.

Good luck with the install and I hope the truck gives you many years of happy service !
