alot of people wanted a flat good sounding sub for a good price and alot of folks dont wanna buy or havent herd the JL if I had the 3 to pick from it would be JL 1st rockford 2nd pioneer 3rd only reason I have used all of them and the pioneers just dont do it for me as far as lower bass and they tend to slop at high volume.also what sets the JL apart from the rest is how the spider and suspension is set up on the woffer it allows more traveling surface area and a bigger voice coil with better heat dispersian thus not heating up the voice coil and having it sound like shit(see pioneer) for burnt coils I have 2 of the pioneers for sale if anyone wants them... I also can get rockfords,earthquake if anyone wants them The JL subs will be ava. for me to sell to you guys soon. as of now they are for demo cars and such.(venders) :tdown:

I agree there are probably better sounding subs out there, but for the price, the pioneer isnt bad in my experience. Keep in mind this is my wifes daily driver, so this sub is more than enough for her, as its never going to be really pushed to its limit.

My car on the other hand has JL/Quart components, 2x 10 inch ID subs and a Memphis Belle amp with an Alpine head unit.. Its all a matter of what you want to spend your money on really.

Car audio components are kind of like wine in that some people can really appreciate the sublte and not-so-subtle differences and some cant. But it wont stop the ones who cant from buying $200 bottles of wine to impress people anyways =)

i just ordered 2 13tw5's for a customer and they should be here in 2 weeks per jl and my shipping department. i'll let you guys know how they sound. they still need a good bit of airspace though. it would be real hard to fit on in a sy w/o fiberglassing it

Got two of them in a super thin 1.3ft^3 ported enclosure with about 150 watts per sub behind the seats in my Sy. Seats are all the way back and there's about an inch between the subs and the seats. Won't win any SPL contests, but more than enough bass for most people - actually hammers pretty good.

They don't look like much, but they actually perform VERY well with little power. Don't try to put the rated 250 watts to them though, you WILL cook them. Stay between 100-150 watts.

Taking price/performance/space requirements into consideration, these are tough little buggers to beat.

Kenwood's got a shallow sub out now too. KFC-XW1200F is the 12" - under 4" mounting depth, .8 cu ft box, $200 at Best Buy/Crutchfield or $100ish at the online deal sites.
