NGK Plug ?

List members,

Looking for some pros and cons on the following NGK plugs.

NGK-UR5
NGK-UR5ix
NGK-UR6
NGK-UR6ix

I already tried the UR5 and seem to be a pretty good plug but would like some thoughts on the others. I tried doing a search on this site for plugs but it's not coming up and I remember seeing some old post but can't find them.

I like the UR-6 plugs. The IX plugs were a bit costly for me.

UR5 is the stock equivalent "V-Power" plug. UR6 is the same thing, but one step colder. The NGK site has (had?) a big thing on how Iridium is the greatest stuff ever. The IX's aren't gappable though. I've been happy with the V-Power's so I haven't been too interested in the spendy IX's...

IX's are safe to gap, just don't mash the center electrode.

I have the UR6IX in my Sy. Love 'em so far, can't say that I'm happier than I would be with UR6's though. UR5's and UR6's both work well IMO.

I will say my truck is the smoothest idling Syty I've ever been in, BAR NONE, and I've been in many.

I noticed my new Honda Turbo charged 4 stroke jet ski came with NGK Iridium plugs from the factory. I've been using the UR6 ix in my Ty.

Hi Rick.. The reason you can't find them is because those plug refferences aren't the actual stock numbers that NGK uses.. Stock number you will need for each plug is inbetween the arrow below

V-Power UR5 ---- > 2771 < ---- .035

Well BG, it looks like there are at least 2-smooth running Sy/Ty's here in Chi-Town now. Installed the UR6IX last week and at idle the tack doesn't move off 700 rpms. Also noticed better throttle reponse.

With the stock AC Delco's I had a slight skip at idle occasionally and the UR5's seemed to work better but these UR6IX's Rock!!!!

.. any word on the gap (how are they shipped) and what's recommended since the center electrode is a somehow smaller?
I am due to throw my AC's out and I've never had a good idle - guess there is hope.

Mine came gapped at .035 and I ran them like that for awhile. I then closed the gap down to .025 when I started running 24lbs of boost and tons of alky on pump gas and a PT52 turbo.

I just installed the ngk ur6ix plugs last night. My idle is much smoother, I don't have a bad hesitation on part throttle and it just plain kicks ass. I am happy about my truck again. I checked the gap and they were more than .035" out of the box. I bent the electrode to a tight .035". Please note I did not touch the center electrode at all, I just bent the bottom a little tighter. I got the plugs from napa in one day, they were 6.72 each, but i would pay twice that to smooth the truck out the way these did. My old GM plugs were only 1500 miles old and they looked great coming out. No pepper on the center electrode, no carbon, no chalk.

Yup they kick ass.

I think if someone is doing some serious tuning, to use UR5 or 6, as they are cheaper. Get the truck dialed in pretty tight, and try these plugs..

Sure, the plugs will change the tune slightly, but get it dialed in pretty well with regular cheapy plugs.

I think we've had the plugs in the Syclone for almost a year now, still running great. I've only had it up to 18psi so far, with no problems. Still idles great.
