Newbie Transmission Question

Forgive my lack of automotive knowledge about these trucks ;) Does a lack of hard shift from 1st to 2nd mean a tranny is going to go out soon? Mine still shifts hard from 1st to 2nd, and it has 42k miles on it... just wondering what the indications would be and generally how long transmissions last on these trucks.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Newbie Transmission Question

if you beat on it, it won't last.

hard shift good, soft shift bad.

Re: Newbie Transmission Question

Do a search on here. Lots of info archived. Some guys race them religeously and trans lasts 100K while others baby them and they last 10K. It's a crap shoot. Wait until you have something change concerning the driving characteristics and then ask. That way you aren't always "waiting" for it to go wrong. At part throttle the shifts will be softer than at full throttle. Pressure goes up with increase in throttle angle. So don't worry about that. Do NOT play with the TV setting to make a more "comfortable" shift. You'll burn it up.

I would suggest, before you think the worst, to change the trans fluid. Old fluid is also a big part of sloppy shifts.
