Newbie questions...

I posted a while back that I had some bottem end noises coming from my Sy, and a blown head gasket. I'm getting ready to start tear down and find out what all is actually wrong with the thing. I'm obviously taking out the engine and while I'm doing this build, I may as well do it right. I'm just wondering what are some sites I can look at for some pistons, rods, and if ya'll think it necessary...crank? Thanks!

Have you used the search feature?? Just asking cause someone else will. IMO if you are going to go through all the effort of pulling the engine out, why not give it a overhaul?? I don't know your budget so that leaves a lot of room for options. Are you trying to stay fairly stock or are you going to make major changes??

Thanks for the responses. I'm not going to do anything radical...maybe .030 over, good bottom end, and if i could come across some vortec heads for a good deal, I may jump on them. Probably stick with the stock turbo set up for now...I just mainly wanna get the bottom end built back up so it can actually hold some power...nothing crazy though.

Sounds like the way mine is now... .030 over, stock turbo... I have Eagle rods and pistons and i have no complaints as of yet. Hopefully I wont have any anytime so either..LOL

4.3's use different rods than a SBC V8, but pistons would be the same. Just make sure you use lower compression pistons. Eagle rods are really the only relatively affordable option for aftermarket rods. A few of the gaskets are SyTy specific.

RPM has everything you would need, and a wealth of SyTy knowledge.

syty performance is where I've been searching this afternoon. I'm looking at buying the Eagle H Beam rods off their site. It said that's what a lot of SyTy guys are going with. I wanted to go forged bottom end, but I don't think I can fork out that kinda money right now. I just want to get it back on the road with some good parts that'll last. Oh, I actually started the truck up just a little while ago for the first time in over a month! At first it sounded good, but as it warmed up, the knock began. I got down under the truck, and there's definitely something happening down there that shouldn't be, haha. I'm hoping to get started on it tomorrow maybe. Anymore info or advice would be great!
