newbie help

yeah i know these questions get asked all the time but here it goes again. i just got a typhoon and i was wondering what problem areas to watch out for. the car has the following mods. custom cold air intake, ultimiate chip, 3 inch exhaust no cat, hot wired aftercoller, lowered 2 inches, 2500-2700 stall. what should i watch out for/do to insure longevity. what are the main problem areas on the trucks. i have a popping coming out of the frount cv joint, and a little puff of smoke on start up. other than that its all good. any ideas where to start first.

congrats on getting a syty. welcome to the A-1 crowd ;)

with a 3" exhaust and no cat, you might be overboosting. does the truck have a boost gauge? that would be the first thing to do after getting datamaster, and you may wanna avoid going wide open throttle till those two are set up so you don't damage something. even if you don't know anything about datamaster, if you record a couple runs (0-60, 0-100, 40-80, whatever) you can post the log file here and someone can look at it and let you know if something aint right or if youre good to go.

Re: newbie helop

yes we have a boost gauge and chip that has ten different settings. the boost levels are controled by that, the car is running in one of two modes either stock+ or t116 which is rated for 95 octane and i mixed in 6 gallons of 100 octane so it noosts to about 16 pounds in 2nd and a little over 17 in third due to boost creap. but i think the next mod i want to do is a walbro and fpr is this a wise idea and where can i get this here datamaster. i dont quite know how to do it but would still like to know how it works.

If you have a chip with 10 different settings, you should already have an AFPR and Walbro to make it run safely. That chip you're talking about requires HIGHER fuel pressure than a stock FPR provides, and the Stock Fuel pump is barely adequate for the stock chip, let alone a 10-1 chip. GET an AFPR and Walbro ASAP.

Hook up with someone close to you who knows about these trucks. And pay attention to what people say on the board, they are trying to help you, or else they wouldn't waste their time typing in responses.

You're doing the right things, asking questions....Have fun with your new toy.

Re: newbie helop

You will need a Laptop and ALDL cable to use Datamaster. You can purchase the software here http://www.ttspowersystems.com/ for the cable I would look on this board for the person that has been selling them.

I am Knoxville so let me know when your over this way and we’ll get datamaster hooked up and see what’s going on.

Re: newbie help

yeah i know i really need the walbro and afpr i dont have the money yet nor the time. i am living with the ty in mooresville north carolina right now. but will be taking the ty back to sevierville in bout 2 weeks. i dont drive it super hard and tend to keep it on mostly stock settings. i am constantly looking for help and advice. i dont go WOT to more than 3800 RPMS to keep it from overboosting. i try to do it right, but some times i get ahead of myself in doing things.
