Newb .... wanting to make a Syclone !!!

Jus a newbie here sayin hello from Jefferson, S.C. :) Reason I joined this site is because I have a 1991 S10 Tahoe truck that I would like to convert to a SY clone.

It's basically bone stock with a 2.8 tbi 5speed & I was told IF I was goin to convert it this would be the place that could help the most.

I'd like to basically have the body look like a SY with the exception of the GMC grille & also have the suspension capabilities with the exception of the 4.3 SY motor being a 350 tbi 5speed Iroc Z motor.

I know I'm probably in for a LOT of  -ing & raving about wanting to make a clone but since I'm not too loaded with $$$ it's my only option to own something similiar. Anyways Hope you guys can help me out with the info & I look forward to being here :D

cladding is $$. forget about this, in the end you it will cost you more than the real thing, and not quite like it

get the 350tbi into the truck first....then see if you still want to put the cladding on it.

the 350 tbi & 5speed aren't going tobe that much of a hassle because I already have the entire setup = harness, ecm, mounts & kit etc ;) .

Anyways with that being said .... I'd like to find the entire set of cladding or as I know it body kit without spending just as much for it as I would an actual SyTy  . I personally think with the "hybrid monster" I'm building it'd be the unique touch because of the limited SyTy's built and the history they had/have  .

A full set of syclone cladding will run you over $3000. Best thing to do is keep your eyes out and find deals on each piece and gather them all up. By the time you get done putting in the 350, wiring, computer, tranny, driveline, etc... you might be close to having all the pieces you will need.... :2cents:

Pauls Select Fiberglass cladding. Half the cost of OEM, readily available, easily replaced or fixed if ever broken.

http://sportmachines.com/parts/cladding.php - He does have full sets.

Save the real stuff for the real trucks and the owners who need them.
Good luck on the project.

:D thanks a lot SYO237  because If Paul can make it & sell it a little bit cheaper I'd sooner go that way instead of paying the 400$+ prices per piece .... even though I would kinda like the fact of having the actual syty originals on a hybrid.

My :2cents: it would make the hybrid worth a little more in some ways because of the cladding being pretty rare & expensive. Thanks though you've helped greatly  :syty:

Now IF I May? what's sOoO special about the suspension under the 91 sy's compared to the regular s10's & the tahoe s10's ???

SyTyless......for now!
Re: Newb .... wanting to make a Syclone !!!

It's the exact same setup as any other 4x4 S-10, just 2" lower and softer springs in the rear. The Ty's had the rear air-ride.

Ok i think i understand that but just to make sure so the syty's have the torsion bars & etc like all the s10's, blazers, & the s15's - jimmy that are 4x4 :? ?

what about sonoma gt cladding?
Uhm :? don't believe I've ever seen a sonoma that was a 1st gen with any different/unique looking cladding or factory body gfx kits. By chance Any pics of what you're speaking of ?

:rotf: Jus....find 601 going South, trace it to Pageland, & then approx 8 miles south is Jefferson = (Small Town). Mapquest is the easiest way to look it up lol.

$600 prolly won't get you very far into the cladding. I just paid $500 for 1 piece used.

Ok sOoO sonoma gt cladding isn't much different then the syty cladding from the pics i've located on http://www.sportmachines.com/gallery/Sonoma-GT but still brings up the ?s of it being found for a reasonable price like under 600$ & how hard or rare is to find ???

SoGT are alot rarer than Syclone's with only 807 made (vs ~3000). Sonoma Gt', share the same front and rear bumper covers. The rest of it different. The front and rear have transistion caps and they just have different lower rocker cladding. (no arches) If you look closely, the grey on SoGT's is just painted to give the effect of cladding.

If someon knows what they have, your not going to find a SoGT cladding in good shape for $600 because front/rear bumper covers are worth more than that alone. I think at one point their was talking of having all the SoGT cladding pieces made up in fiberglass, I imagine SoGT use a lot less mounting hardware than SyTy's.

The problem with clones is they are barely worth SyTy part that they have on them and sometime not even that. I have seen a few V8 with cladding go for around $2500. Turbojunk sold his Syclone powered Blazer (no cladding) for what a SyTy motor is worth.
